Happy Christmas to you and your family. I hope you enjoy a well deserved break, wherever in the world you are.

(Do please post below if your travels have taken you anywhere exciting this Christmas.)

Head for Points is taking a two day break. We will be back on Saturday 27th.

If you really want something to read in the meantime, take a look under the ‘Favourite Articles‘ tab where you will find my pick of the most relevant pieces published in 2014.

Whilst some of the articles are due for an update, you will also find our 16-part ‘Avios Redemption University‘ series interesting.

Thank you for your support over the past year.  I have two competitions lined up for January which will absolutely blow your mind, thanks to two very generous sponsors, so keep an eye on the site.

    Hey Rob,

Two great trips to Florida in Virgin UC this year using miles.

Maldives & Florida with BA next year, again burning more miles.

    Have a great break.

    Cheers

    🙂

Thanks to you Raffles, we flew BA A380 CW on 241 to Washington to spend Christmas with my sister in Michigan. A special family time having not seen her for 2 years, and looking forward to meeting our new baby great-niece later today. Happy Christmas Raffles, and keep up the great work that has helped enrich the travel experiences of ourselves and so very many HFP readers.

Happy holidays Rob and all. I have no annual leave left, but there should be some points-fuelled adventures next fiscal year.

I have religiously read this site every day!
    Merry Christmas to everyone!!

Whilst I have you, I need the best tip on how to fly to JFK in October next year. I have plenty of avios etc.. What would people suggest is the best option? Pay with cash and upgrade using avios worth while? I’ve done that for a CW trip to Japan in May and paid £1300 plus 35k avios but could have flown business for about £1900 on a different airline to not great value but never mind. Just don’t want to make any mistakes with JFK next year so any tips would be a great help 🙂 using 4 nights vouchers from the into the night promo me and the mrs did and 50,000 points for a 5th night from signing up to the IHG credit card 🙂 all thanks to this site!

      Hi Nathan
Assuming you are not using a 2 for 1 voucher, I would personally suggest booking WTP in cash using a sale fare and then upgrade using avios (you should obviously check just before you book that the flights you select have Club World availability so you can upgrade immediately with avios after booking). If you are looking to book CW in cash, consider if either if these are an option: 1) Club World London City, as it pays 210 tier points in each direction instead of the usual 140, which will put you well on the road to a silver card; or 2) an Ex Europe fare which can be much cheaper than booking directly from London. I hope that helps and safe travels.

Happy Christmas Rob/Raffles and family, and to all on Head For Points,

I took my first tentative steps into business class this year, and I don’t want to go back thank you! You’ve shown me some amazing finds, and I really appreciate it, i SHALL get my BA Status in 2015 🙂

I’m at sea – working as a Ship’s Doctor – and we’ve been to the Canaries, and are in Lisbon tomorrow, then off to the Amsterdam for New Year, and then the Caribbean – I try not to complain 😉 I’ve got my family on board with me – which is brilliant.

My best wishes to all of you, and THANK YOU!

Happy Xmas to Raffles and all hfp readers.
Currently on Gold Coast in Australia, sadly not on a miles redemption but using an Oslo ex-EU ticket and qualify for gold on my return trip so not a bad effort!

    Love this site, it’s brilliant.

  • Zoe says:

Thanks for everything Rob. My family have become thoroughly spoilt with business class long haul travel all thanks to you. My husband now buys maximum holiday from work as we need 6 weeks a year to fit it all in. Your knowledge and advice are invaluable.
    Regards Zoe
