The IHG (Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, InterContinental) 48-hour Winter sale is back

IHG – owner of Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza, InterContinental etc – has brought back the 48-hour Winter Sale that it originally ran earlier in the month. Booking is now open.

Over 600 hotels in Europe are taking part. This time the start date has been pushed back by 24 hours – you can now book from December 16th – but the end date is the same at February 14th.

As you can see from this page on the IHG website, the list of participating hotels is priced from £29 to £169.

As far as I can tell, the list appears identical to the list of hotels who took part a couple of weeks ago.

The UK £29 list only comprises Holiday Inn Express hotels. The first semi-decent London hotel I know personally is Holiday Inn Kensington at £49 – this is a pretty good deal as it is outside Gloucester Road tube station and 5 minutes walk from the South Kensington museums.

Holiday Inn London Bloomsbury and Holiday Inn London Regents Park, both £49, also have decent reputations but I have never been inside either. At this price you can’t really go wrong.

On the other hand, the Holiday Inn Stratford I used to get for £20 in the sale is £89 – close to its normal price in the dead season. The Holiday Inn Wembley is not worth £89 given that it is only 10,000 IHG points to redeem.

If you want a luxury break, the £169 level looks interesting. InterContinental London Park Lane is there, as is InterContinental Paris Le Grand – a Valentine break may be possible.

The sale runs until midnight on Saturday 29th so you have just a few hours to book.

These rooms are not explicitly blocked from earning IHG Rewards Club points and stay credit, or counting for Into The Nights. If your night costs less than 70% of the Best Flexible Rate for that night, your points are at risk though. This is the threshold that hotels are meant to use when deciding whether to give points although some properties ignore it.

First time round, you could add breakfast for a flat £10 per room – a great deal. InterContinental properties will add £30. In Europe it was even cheaper at €10 per room. This is not specifically mentioned this time but some properties may offer it.
