New British Airways route changes – Bilbao in, Rotterdam out

British Airways has announced a new service to Bilbao in Spain from 29th March.

Operating from Heathrow Terminal 5, there will be two flights per day.  The flight times are excellent for a short break with outbound services at 09.20 and 16.05 and return flights leaving Bilbao at 13.05 and 19.40.

It will interesting to see how this route performs.  Whilst there will be some business traffic, I would expect it to be a mainly leisure route. It is worth noting that this flight will go from Terminal 1 which is a bit of a no-mans land now that most of the airlines have moved to Terminal 2.

Flights are now booking at ba.com.

If you were wondering where the slots are coming from, part of the answer is that the Heathrow to Rotterdam service is being scrapped from 28th March.

Rotterdam will continue to be served from London City.  BA is moving booked passengers onto the City flights or transferring them to an Amsterdam flight from Heathrow.

Ref to T5 in first paragraph should be T1

    • nux says:

It has been confirmed to go from T3 despite what the press conference stated.

  • Tim says:

Bilbao is also conveniently just within Avios Zone 1 from the UK. I feel a trip to Bilbao coming on….

    • David says:

The flights are currently so cheap that it is not worth spending Avios (although it may be in future!). I found some £37 each way fares out there.

    • David says:

Even better, if you book a one way originating in Spain I can see some fares as low as €27 (comprised of a nominal €1 fare, €15 in YQ and €10.56 in tax). You could use Avios on the outbound and purchase the return.

  • JQ says:

Where can I find a list of all current BA metal destinations including the London airport they depart from?

  • sandgrounder says:

You should send BA a message about that. A horse’s head usually does the trick 🙂

  • Jamie P says:

This is excellent news as one of my favourite short-break destinations is San Sebastián. Getting there previously was always a nightmare so this will help shorten travel times tremendously

  • Peter says:

The British Airways new twice daily service to Bilbao in Spain is replacing the existing twice daily service by Vueling it seems, as Vueling shows no availability for that route from the end of March 2015 when the BA new service starts. Re. San Sebastian (or Donostia in basque), it can be quite easily reached by flying Ryanair from Stansted to Biarritz followed by a car ride of approx 30 minutes. Hope that helps.

  • Anton says:

Strange indeed, I was on LHR – RTM over the weekend and it looked plenty busy… personally I don’t mind them moving the service over to LCY though!
