    In T&C it says MBNA cards are fine, and I was able to register mine. I have not yhet done the travel, however.

    Don’t think so, would defeat the point of the promo which is to get you to use your credit card instead!

  Amex are all over the place with this one.

  1st person I spoke to – Esso gargages with Tesco shop excluded but Malthurst included.
  2nd – Both are excluded
  3rd – Both are included

  Although he was careful with this wording the third person pretty much guaranteed a manual credit if any issues.

    I’ve had several manual credits, all they do is look up the transaction then apply the credit.

    Leaky system it would appear but don’t worry about your £10 😉

    The whole “MALTHURST” thing is a pile of crap. My local Esso – which isn’t on the exclusion list – has a “Hurst’s” shop attached to it. Obvious now, but I didn’t think (or have reason to think) that this is a MALTHURST garage (indeed, the BP down the road also has a Hurst’s, so that’s clear as mud…).
    Poorly thought-out offer, and now I have to chase them for a bloody tenner. AAARGH.

  I made the assumption, after reading how the billing would work, that the TFL contactless payment would be per charge, not per journey.

  To be on the safe side, I split my journey by exiting the tube within zone 1 and immediately going back through the gates again. Total journeys for the day thereby come to more than £5, but less than the original with the statement credit if I hadn’t split.

  What’s not so clear to me is if weekend journeys are charged at the end of each day, or at the end of the weekend? Would save me splitting my journeys if so.

    PS. Must say, using the Amex card was a hassle – usually had to swipe 4 or 5 times before the barrier recognised it! (I had nothing else in my hand for it to clash with).

  Happy to report £10 credit received from a transaction at my local Esso-with-a-Tesco-Express. (Paid at a Tesco till and transaction came up on my statement as ‘Tesco Stores 3359’)

  So that’s success with my Gold… will see what happens with my Barclaycard-issued AmEx, which I’ve also registered for the promotion, next time I fill up…

  I have a Lloyds Amex, and my transaction tracked as MALTHURST so seems no automatic credit, but Lloyds bank wont help at all with this, anyone have a email address or phone number that would help me, I don’t have a ‘proper amex’ so cant just secure mail them.

  I cannot find any Esso’s that sell gift cards of any kind. It looks like it’s not one of their lines.

    My local Esso without a Tesco shop sells a wide variety of gift cards.

    The Esso with a Tesco shop sells some giftcards. I have bought Tesco giftcards though as they are easy to spend.
