Lufthansa‘s Miles & More programme has launched a special promotion with Hilton HHonors that is worth a look.

For stays at weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday nights) until December 15th, you will earn 1,500 Miles & More miles per NIGHT.  Hampton Inn stays will only earn 500 bonus miles.

The sign-up link is here at hilton.com.

If you value a Miles & More mile at 1p, this is a pretty decent rebate on a cheap weekend night.  Remember that you will ALSO earn Hilton HHonors points as well – and those will be doubled or tripled under the current ‘Triple Your Trip’ promotion until the end of October.

Millennium Hilton Bangkok

If you have a collection of Lufthansa miles, this looks pretty interesting.  Miles & More miles are trickier to earn if you live in the UK than Avios points or Virgin Flying Club miles.  Miles & More is not an American Express Membership Rewards transfer partner.  Whilst there is a dedicated Miles & More credit card in the UK the sign-up bonus is very low at just 1,500 miles for much of the year.

This bonus runs until December 15th.

The other Hilton HHonors promotions for miles collectors are:

15,000 Virgin miles with five stays before November 30th (this bonus is based on stays, not nights, but is valid on every night of the week unlike the Lufthansa deal)

Triple or quadruple Avios on all stays before November 30th (this bonus is spend-based at 3-4 Avios per $1 spent so is less lucrative unless you have a large bill)

You need to register for all of these promotions via the relevant link and then set your Hilton account to ‘points and miles’ with the relevant airline selected.  I am guessing, although I am not 100% certain, that you could register for all of them.

You could then switch your airline preference before each stay based on the most lucrative option – or switch to Avios or Miles & More if you had already maxed out your five Virgin stays.  The Lufthansa promotion also runs for two weeks after the Virgin and Avios deals end so it may be the best option for stays in early December.

Don’t forget that the Hilton Flash Sale continues until Sunday night – including the Millennium Bangkok pictured above.

How to earn Hilton Honors points and status from UK credit cards

How to earn Hilton Honors points and status from UK credit cards (December 2021)

There are various ways of earning Hilton Honors points from UK credit cards.  Many cards also have generous sign-up bonuses.

Do you know that holders of The Platinum Card from American Express receive FREE Hilton Honors Gold status for as long as they hold the card?  It also comes with Marriott Bonvoy Gold, Radisson Rewards Gold and MeliaRewards Gold status.  We reviewed American Express Platinum in detail here and you can apply here.

Did you know that the Virgin Atlantic credit cards are a great way of earning Hilton Honors points? Two Virgin Points can be converted into three Hilton Honors points. The Virgin Atlantic cards are the only Visa or Mastercard products in the UK which can indirectly earn Hilton Honors points. You can apply here.

You can also earn Hilton Honors points indirectly with American Express Gold (20,000 bonus points), the American Express Rewards Credit Card (5,000 bonus points) and – for small business owners – American Express Business Gold (20,000 bonus points) and Business Platinum (40,000 bonus points).

I thought that is generous. Just what is the redemption for Lufthansa? Wow it’s only on checking that out you realise just how “special” Lufthansa is!

    • Kai says:

If you plan in advance you can get some very good deals for Asia/USA. A business return to Beijing/Tokyo/Seoul requires only 70000 miles + £600.

Their redemption for European flights under the bargain is still more costly than BA, but from what I have seen the availability is far better.

      • czechoslovakia says:

Availability under LH M&M is infinitely better than BAs hugely disappointing current “offering” of scraps. Plus you can actually book tickets without taxes at all for extra miles.

  • Rob says:

LH short-haul is terrible because they don’t have Reward Flight Saver, so taxes are over £100 – you are better off buying a ticket.

Long-haul is a different story, especially as they restrict advance bookings on LH F redemptions – which are excellent – to their own members.
