Amex offer at London Westfield’s – £20 off £100 spend

Links on Head for Points may pay us an affiliate commission. A list of partners is here.

American Express is running a promotion with both of the mega Westfield shopping malls in London.

Until 31st August, which does not give you long, you will receive a £20 statement credit when you spend £100.

Unlike most Amex promotions, the £100 spend does NOT need to be at one single store.  You can shop at a mixture of stores, on different days if necessary.

Westfield

Frankly, the easiest thing to do is to buy £100 of gift vouchers at a participating outlet.  Waitrose is participating, for example, so buying £100 of John Lewis / Waitrose gift cards (yes, they have finally started doing plastic gift cards and got rid of the paper vouchers) is an easy one.

I won’t be back in the UK before the 31st, unfortunately.  If I was I would be tempted to register every Amex card I can find and buy £100 of Waitrose vouchers on every card, given we shop there every week.

The site to register, and which also has the list of participating stores, is here.

  • Reney says:

Can someone tell me what would the interest cost be if I brought £100 of currency? I assume it will be recorded as cash advance?

    • Trevor says:

A good point that I had forgotten to consider, although I was unlikely to buy currency anyway. The only time you dont pay fees is with an Amex issued card when using their own site online. Other than that, both a cash advance fee and interest are payable until your statement is settled in full. What those rates are depends on your card, your issuer and your agreement at signup. So if you consider those along with the poor forex rate received as a walk-in customer, your £20 benefit will be mostly swallowed up.

  • David says:

Where did someone read it’s only 3 per same name and email address? I have registered 14 cards 7 in mine and 7 in my partners names, hoping to buy at least £1000 of Apple gift cards on Saturday on the way to see Kate Bush.

    • Nick says:

How do you have 7 amex in your name? What’s the mix?

      • Jeremy I says:

The only thing to be careful of is whether they treat the relevant date as being when the transactions are cleared in your account. That might be as late as Monday or Tuesday.

I have no idea whether I’m worrying for nothing

      • Keiths says:

I though the MBNA ones didn’t qualify?

Gutted if they do as I went to Waitrose Stratford to get 2x £100 using 2 BA Amex’s, but didn’t use my Virgin Amex

    • Rob says:

I’ve never had a problem with 7 or so with the Foursquare deals

  • Adam says:

Don’t suppose if anyone knows if Boots or any other stores sell Argos gift cards? Want to pick up a Samsung Galaxy Tab S and already have half the balance from previous offer.

    • Yi says:

Clinton Cards sell argos, amaon, master and lots of other brand.

Located at G7 in Westfield London Shepherds

      • Michael says:

What do you mean exactly by …master… Are this like the VISA cards at Tesco’s but MASTERCARD branded?

      • Adam says:

Many thanks, hadn’t thought of Clinton’s, managed to get the Argos cards in their store at Stratford , also checked out WHSmith, where they had many other brands, along with prepaid Visa and Amex, the only £50 pre-paid cards I could find were the Amex cards at Boots, but all of the cards on display had been tampered with so I didn’t buy any, just in case someone had cloned them or something, was just weird the tear strips had all been opened.

  • Tim says:

Just got the email from Amex confirming the £100 I spent at Waitrose Westfield (shepherd’s bush) qualified for the £20 credit.

  • Mij says:

Combined with the house of Fraser £10 off £70 https://headforpoints.com/2014/08/10/american-express-cardmember-offers/

    Makes this a great deal.

Personally, I fancied 20% off at Apple 🙂

  • Richard says:

Just had not only he confirmation on Amex of a £20 credit in respect of £100 spent in Waitrose on Thursday, but actually had the credit applied to my account on Friday. I’m impressed with the speed of it.

  • Stephen says:

Spent over £100 in Westfield yesterday, no email or statement credit showing up yet!

    • Rob says:

You won’t get the credit until after the original charge shows up. If you used an MBNA or Lloyds Amex you rarely get emails either.

      • Stephen says:

Thanks for the clarification. With some offers in the past, I’ve received immediate emails just after I completed the transaction.

    • RIccati says:

It is also a weekend.. transactions might take an extra working day to appear on the statement.

  • Stephan says:

Does it take longer to receive the £20 credit on MBNA cards? I spent over £100 on Friday and it is on my online statement but no credit yet

    • Stephan says:

Just got the confirmation email today. That was a long wait but glad it worked out!

    • Trevor says:

I got all 9 emails today having used all 9 cards on Friday. Only the Amex issued cards already have the credit applied today.
