Amex offer at London Westfield’s – £20 off £100 spend

American Express is running a promotion with both of the mega Westfield shopping malls in London.

Until 31st August, which does not give you long, you will receive a £20 statement credit when you spend £100.

Unlike most Amex promotions, the £100 spend does NOT need to be at one single store. You can shop at a mixture of stores, on different days if necessary.

Frankly, the easiest thing to do is to buy £100 of gift vouchers at a participating outlet. Waitrose is participating, for example, so buying £100 of John Lewis / Waitrose gift cards (yes, they have finally started doing plastic gift cards and got rid of the paper vouchers) is an easy one.

I won’t be back in the UK before the 31st, unfortunately. If I was I would be tempted to register every Amex card I can find and buy £100 of Waitrose vouchers on every card, given we shop there every week.

  Andrew, I can’t agree more. It is a MASSIVE BLOW what happened with John Lewis/Waitrose gift voucher system. One was able to buy in quantity and separate, spend receiving cash change, give to others, all without a worry.
  
  Plastic cards have an expiry, you have to keep tabs on their balance, there is a limit on their balance (and would you keep several cards of 500 value around? with vouchers — easily), and wait for it, they can de-magnetised or magnetic strip damaged and you have nothing!
  
  Maybe JL got enticed by the numbers of expired balances on plastic gift cards at other retailers.
  But it is a bad innovation. I always supposed that gift vouchers help them with cash handling costs and even if, say, a large quantity of vouchers is bought to get over spending threshold on a credit card deal, by buying vouchers you are committed to spend them at JL/Waitrose in part or full.
  
  Now, one has to buy vouchers from various retailers they use and spread the spending.

  The plus side that JL now will aways have gift cards for any amount, so no risk they run out for promotions like this.
  
  I would be a smarter choice for them to have both schemes but innovation kills old ways even if there was a lot of good about them.

      I’m intrigued as to what % of the 4,000 we use up. As of 5pm, over 500 people have clicked through to the registration page from HFP. However, that ignores the 2,700 people on our email list – I imagine that is another 500 at least. Not all of those will have signed up, but on the other hand some will have signed up multiple cards from just one click through.
      
      Remember when we used up all 500 of Amex’s £10 Hailo codes before 9am – an offer that was meant to run for a month?!

        My feeling is that this 4000 number is simply not a hard/real limit.
        I put through 6 myself. Another reason why HfP is among my daily must-reads!
        
        I’ve registered with other amex offers, sometimes on the last day. The Tesco £10 one from earlier this year comes to mind. Never had a problem before.

  As long as the card number is different, it’ll count as a separate card and hence these types of supplementary cards have always worked for these types of offers previously.
  
  Thanks for heads-up, Raffles, better late than never. Just a shame about timing as I was due to go to Shepherd’s Bush last week but decided not to, yet this would have got me there for sure. But I’ve registered 9 cards so will have to make a special trip very soon.
