Use your Amex Membership Rewards points for a Nectar ‘x4’ redemption

Not a lot of people know that Nectar is a transfer partner of American Express Membership Rewards. You can transfer your Amex points into Nectar points in a ratio of 1:1.

The minimum transfer to Nectar is just 1 point. This means it is a good way of emptying out an Amex Membership Rewards account if you have a few points left over after transferring to Avios, where you must move in chunks of 1,000.

Nectar double up

Nectar has just launched ‘Double Up & More’ which runs until August 12th.

Instead of receiving 0.5p per Nectar point, some partners are now offering 1p and even 2p. This means that you would be getting very good value from your Membership Rewards points.

The best deals (ie 2p per point) are for theme park and days out tickets, eg LEGOLAND, Chessington, Tussauds. Pizza Express vouchers are available at x2, ie 1p per Amex point – although note that they cannot be used to pay for drinks, only food.

Many of these partners are also available via Tesco Clubcard Boost so you would need to decide which route offered the best deal.

If you do plan to transfer American Express Membership Rewards points to Nectar to take advantage of this, you should do it sooner rather than later as they take a few days to go across. You need to order your ‘Double Up’ vouchers from Nectar by August 12th.

Hopefully this will lead to more deals in the future. For now though, I’d say note the T&Cs: from the Alton Towers vouchers:
“A voucher cannot be used with any other promotion, advance bookings or ticket bought online or by phone.”
So it seem you cant use the ubiquitous 50% off vouchers available on cereal boxes and other places.

and “Double Up & More vouchers must be used before 30th September 2014.”

  Yes, good point. You’ll find the same conditions (not to be used with other promotions, etc) apply to most of these Nectar/Clubcard deals for restaurants, hotels, etc, meaning that the actual value you get is less than advertised, since most people will use some kind of voucher or discount method. Not worth it, in my opinion.

  I agree. I just ordered 4 swimming vouchers. At my local pool it costs £4.70 for an adult swim, so that’s £18.80 worth of value for 500 points (x7.52 normal face value).

Off topic here but anyone else had problems with the Amex-Foursquare deal? Loaded the deal for a few to two Amex cards, included that for both Ask Italian and Zizzi.

Went to local Zizzi and £10 was credited but on statement as ASK RESTAURANTS LTD. When then later when went to local Ask Italian the credit did not turn up on that card but did on another I had not already used at Zizzi.

Anyone else have this problem and is it worth calling Amex to chase this? Thanks.

  Zizzi, ask and pizza express are all the same group so that could explain the issue.
  
  If you give amex a call they will instantly credit any missing statement credits in my experience.

  I was looking for some deals prior to flying out of LHR with the X4 Nectar points and it’s no deal in my opinion.
  
  You can get £40.00 voucher for 2000 points, max one per person. However I looked at the price of the tickets for 2 adults and one child online and it was £101.00! So you can’t book on line or use other promotions and their is no guarantee you will get that price at the ticket office on the day.
  
  Looks like a long day in the lounge at the SOFITEL T5, bummer…
