Can’t use the Avios Flight Finder app? HfP reader Tim creates a web version

I wrote last week about the new Avios Flight Finder app.  This is an iPhone / iPad app which can show you, impressively quickly, reward flight availability on British Airways flights.

This app is not available for Android, nor is it available to non-UK iOS users.  It also isn’t usable by anyone who doesn’t have a smart phone.

Until now.

EDIT, May 2021: If you found this article via Google, hello!  Since we published it, ‘BA Redemption Finder’ has become ‘Reward Flight Finder’ – the links below still work.  We also recommend that you look at SeatSpy – see this HfP article – which is more comprehensive and usually more accurate in its BA data.

Head for Points reader Tim has developed a simple website which accesses the same database used for the Avios Flight Finder app.

You can find it by clicking here.

Amazingly, this bit of software is even quicker than the Avios Flight Finder app – because it immediately shows you full availability for the next 355 days!

Like the Avios Flight Finder it cannot handle connections.  It also does not show oneworld partner airlines.

The main use of this site should therefore be to check availability when you want to use an Amex 2-4-1 voucher – if you are not using a 2-4-1 voucher you should use ba.com instead as it will show you Qatar, Finnair, Royal Jordanian, airberlin, American, US Airways etc etc as well.

Remember that avios.com has better European economy reward availability than ba.com.  For Club Europe, World Traveller, World Traveller Plus, Club World and First it should match what is available on ba.com.  Sometimes avios.com does not fully match ba.com but no-one has ever worked out why ….

  • Col A-B says:

Tim, as I said to you on Twitter, I’m delighted you developed this.

And the best thing is – it works!

  • Toby says:

    This is great!

  • Andrew S says:

Fantastic job Tim… there is a link to his personal info on the site if anyone requires web development.

One enhancement that would make this even better would be to show the day of the week next to the returned date 🙂

    • Tim Rogers says:

Thanks Andrew. And your wish is my command – I’ve now added days of the week.

  • jeffrey silvers says:

Tried again…it doesn’t like Belfast (yet Avios do fly from here), but as I can also fly out of Dublin…it works a treat..thank you

    • Tim Rogers says:

Tim here, creator of the tool. I just had a go and I could get Belfast to work by entering BFS and NYC, for example. What route are you trying?

      • Brendan says:

The confusion is probably that BFS is Belfast International Airport, BA dont fly from there, they fly from the city airport (BHD). But the avios tool is obviously using BFS as a city shortcode

  • Al says:

    Thank you for this.

One quick question: What happens if there is availability on avios.com but not ba.com?

All my avios (and that of my household) are in BAEC. I know avios can be transferred from individual ba.com accounts to avios.com accounts, but do the household pooling redemption rules continue to apply?

    • squills says:

Unfortunately, I believe so. You may prefer to split up the household account, transfer all the points to one member ie head of household and then set up a new Avios a/c if needed, in that person’s name. There might be other workarounds.

  • Greyt says:

Excellent tool. How about adding a length of stay search option. Ie find me outbound and return in club that has a length of stay between x and y days. This would be the final icing on the cake for people that dont care when they travel.

  • Andrew says:

BA are very proud of saying that they release at least one reward seat in every class on every flight at some point. It would be very interesting if someone could pull some automated reports using this tool to prove or disprove this claim.

  • Nirm says:

Excellent – coming from an old school Amadeus GDS background, in an instant (after so many years) this tool has made my AVIOS life so much quicker and very less frustrating! I sincerely hope BA don’t find some way to block this incredibly useful tool. Thank you 🙂
