Earn bonus Clubcard points (= bonus Avios) completing Shopper Thoughts surveys

Reader Chris dropped me a line a couple of days ago to say that Tesco was promoting ‘Shopper Thoughts’ on his latest Clubcard statement as a way of earning more points.

I haven’t written about this in 15 months and, to be honest, I thought it might have died a death.  The website is still there and, more importantly, it now says ‘Copyright dunnhumby’ at the bottom.  dunnhumby is a Tesco subsidiary so Shopper Thoughts is obviously a tiny Tesco company.

Shopper Thoughts

The concept is simple enough:

Shopper Thoughts is a new way for consumers to share their experiences and thoughts. This helps us to develop the right products and to create the best shopping experience we can for you

We’d like to know your thoughts

Every day you’re faced with lots of different choices. Not just along the supermarket aisles, but in every walk of your day-to-day life. If you’re a member of the Shopper Thoughts Panel, we will send you regular surveys to complete so that we can understand what you like and what you dislike, what issues are important to you and how we can serve you better in the future.

The small print shows that the scheme seems fair.

It gives the example of earning 100 Clubcard points for a 15-minute survey. If this is accurate, then you are earning 240 Avios (c £2) for 15 minutes of your time, so the hourly rate is not bad – especially if you are watching TV at the time!

More importantly, if you choose to take Clubcard points, they post after each survey. There is no minimum balance to reach before your points are transferred, which is the biggest problem with competitor e-rewards.

Further details and the sign-up page can be found here. Remember to select Clubcard points as your earning preference.

It was actually you, Raffles, who made me aware of Shopper Thoughts and I signed up after your piece on HfP (obviously 15 months ago). I remember that after a few months one of your other readers stated that they had not received a single survey invitation, and nor had I at that time.

I do get the odd one now, but sometimes you are just being entered into a prize draw without getting guaranteed CC points for taking part in a survey.

  • Thomas says:

The surveys rarely take longer than 5 minutes and are very basic and easy..
The points do post to your survey account right away, but they only get transferred to clubcard account periodically..

  • James says:

I signed up about a month ago and so far have had the initial (unpaid) survey and northing else.

  • Ian says:

They have a mobile app too that occasionally offers much more lucrative surveys. Earlier in the year I had two surveys via the mobile app that involved wandering round your regular Tesco answering questions about biscuits or cereals. Each took about 10 mins to complete; the first earned 1000 and the seconds 700 clubcard points. I’ve had another similar invite recently – but wasn’t able to complete it as I was on holiday and (shock, horror) there wasn’t a Tesco nearby.

  • Steve says:

I have the app one as well. Just to point out if you ever do the in store survey you must say it is you regular T’s otherwise it will say you are not eligible for the survey.

  • Roger says:

The survey I completed a couple of months ago was about new credit cards Tesco were considering, and what incentives were most attractive – sign up bonus, bonus on spend, a mixture, miles/other awards, no fee or fee payable, etc.

Curiously, the various options were all assumed to be of equal value for the sake of the survey, so not an open-ended or ongoing survey.

I wonder if such cards will feature alongside the nw current acccount/s being launched this week.

  • Kathryn Dowd says:

I only get shopper thoughts surveys very occasionally – maybe once every couple of months, and they’re rarely worth more than 75 cc points (and sometimes are just a prize draw).

  • Robin White says:

I have received quite a few surveys and been invited to do the ones in store via the mobile app.

They’re very quick to do and at 700 points a time have been great for boosting my balance. As others have said, the points do appear in your shopper thoughts account very quickly but can take time to post to your clubcard account which can push it into the next quarter. But don’t worry the points will post.

    Quick, easy and very profitable.
