Sainsbury’s Collect More Fly More promo to encourage easyJet Nectar redemptions

As a rule I do not cover ways of collecting Nectar points on Head for Points. Whilst you can redeem them for travel, primarily via easyJet or via Expedia, there is nothing ‘special’ about redeeming this way.

What I mean by ‘special’ is that you cannot get outsize value for a travel redemption. In general, a Nectar point is worth 0.5p. This page on our sister site Shopper Points shows the best value Nectar redemptions – ie everything which gets you more than the standard 0.5p per point.

As an aside, it is worth remembering that Nectar is an Amex Membership Rewards partner. You can top up a Nectar account with Amex points as the minimum transfer is just 1 points. This is a good way of totally emptying a Membership Rewards account if you are closing your Amex Gold or Amex Platinum card.

Sainsbury has a scheme called ‘Collect More, Fly More’ which attempts to make redeeming on easyJet better value.

In summary:

You need to register your Nectar account for ‘Collect More, Fly More’ via this website

You will receive a ‘double points’ Nectar voucher valid for one Sainsbury shop for signing up. This will be issued as a till spit the next time you shop at a participating Sainsbury and will be valid for one month.

Going forward, you will receive a 10% points rebate on any easyJet flight booking made with Nectar points. The only condition is that you have shopped in Sainsbury in the 12 weeks prior to making the booking.

All in all, it is pretty underwhelming stuff. If you collect Nectar points via Sainsbury, though, you might as well sign up purely to get your hands on the double points coupon. If you have a large stash of Nectar points and need to book an easyJet flight, you will now make a small gain over most other redemptions if you choose to use them.

For those who do not collect Nectar it is worth pointing out that although a point is worth 0.5% most mainstream outlets will give you two points per £, so effectively 1%.

The £11 booking fee is cancelled out, as the flight prices on the Nectar site and cheaper than on EasyJet directly. So the price is the same. I flew on Saturday on an EasyJet flight booked with Nectar points 🙂

  I did not realise, this, I saw the £11 booking fee and decided that killed that option for me. Having just priced up some things on both, there is a £11 lower price on the Nectar site until it adds the fee at which point they match exactly.

    I don’t understand the conjuring trick of adding an £11 fee while discounting each way of a return trip by £5.50.
    
    I just made a dummy booking for a possible trip to Zurich. Paying by debit card would have achieved identical fares for one person. Paying by credit card would have been £3.41 more expensive using Nectar points because of the £4.95 credit card surcharge (only £1.54 on the easyJet site).
    
    Disclaimer. This is for one passenger. I did not add baggage or seat selection. EasyJet like to promote prices as per passenger based on two travelling to reduce the impact of c.c. fees..

      It’s because that is what the main easyjet site does, it’s just hidden.
      
      You’ll notice that if you search for one person then search for 2 people, the cost per person goes down (assuming two tickets are available at that lower price) because the £11 is only added once per booking.

Correction:

Nectar claim to be the: “Nation’s most popular loyalty programme”.

For me, apart from redeeming a few points as and when, there’s nothing of interest at all-other than dumping residue MR points if needs be(as Rob has pointed out).

  If only you could get similar bonus points as Tesco Club Card or Avios, then it would maybe be worth collecting.
  The way it is, its just boring. Spend £100 in Sainsburys and get £1 off an easyjet flight

    To be fair, Sainsbury’s frequently gives me coupons for the equivalent of 10/15/20% off my next shop, either as a cash coupon or for bonus points.
