With Melia Hotels International sponsoring our competition this week, I thought it was a good time to take a quick look at their ‘Business Travel by Melia Hotels International’ programme.

Melia Hotels International has 350 hotels around the world, of which 180 are in Spain, where it is the largest hotel group.  In the UK, the main business-focussed property is the Melia White House near Regents Park.  The company also runs the luxury ‘lifestyle’ ME hotel on The Strand.

Melia Business

If you travel to Spain on business – or indeed use Melia properties in London or elsewhere – it makes sense to sign up for ‘Business Travel by Melia Hotels International’.

In cash terms, the main benefit is a 7% to 20% discount, depending on the property.  Anyone booking under your company code will also receive free internet access.  Travellers will receive their Melia Rewards points as normal.

Interestingly, Melia actively encourages you (and your employees) to use the discount for personal stays as well.

Companies can sign up online, or you can call 0808 234 1953 or email businesstravel.uk@melia.com to register or request more details.  Gianni – who looks after business sales from London and has been very helpful with putting the competition together – will be happy to answer any queries.

This Bancotel scheme offers fantastic prices on hotel rooms (incl Melia) using a ‘talonario’ system. I used it in Spain many moons ago when I spent a couple of months there – 4* hotels for a fraction of the headline tariff (it does depend a bit on availability but I never was disappointed).

Out of interest, how many hotel groups have special rates for businesses? And are they good in practice? Which are the best?
