Last chance to buy IHG Rewards Club points with a 25%-100% bonus

A quick reminder that tomorrow, Monday 21st, is the last day to buy IHG Rewards Club points with the current 25% – 100% bonus.

IHG increased the potential bonus offered to a lot people a couple of weeks after the promotion launched.  If you were originally offered something small like 25% it is worth looking again.  If you are targetted for a 100% bonus then you should give this offer some serious thought.

Remember that this deal seems to work even if you didn’t get the original email.  Go to this website and log in with your IHG Rewards Club credentials to see your offer.

Here is a reminder of how the deal works.  These are the standard purchase rates:

  • 1,000 – 10,000 points for $13.50 per 1,000 points
  • 11,000 – 25,000 points for $12.50 per 1,000 points
  • 26,000 – 60,000 points for $11.50 per 1,000 points

If you can now buy with a 100% bonus, you would be able to buy 120,000 IHG points for (at current exchange rates) around £420.

At the top end of the IHG Rewards Club portfolio, you have InterContinental properties which top out at 50,000 points per night.  That’s what you would pay for InterContinental LeGrand in Paris, above.

With a 100% bonus, IHG is effectively selling you a night at these properties for £174 all-in.  There is no doubt that this could be a great deal – you can easily pay the equivalent of £350 during peak periods for properties like InterContinental London Park Lane, Paris Le Grand or New York Times Square.  At other times it will not be such a good deal, although I doubt you will ever pay less than £174 for the IC’s above at any time of year.

To be clear, I do not consider this a great deal if you are getting a bonus lower than 100%.  The numbers do look pretty good if you have been targeted for the top bonus, however.

Monday is the last day to jump in if you are interested.

How easy is it to redeem points.
The park lane hotel sounds a good deal if you use the points.
Do any of the hotel gold cards issued with the Amex platinum, work with IHG?

You can check easily by searching for rooms at ihgrewardsclub.com when logged in (just open a free IHG Rewards Club account first). Generally decent in my opinion.

Pretty good – they’re still offering 45k redemption rooms at the IC San Francisco, whilst cash rates are now up to $600 per night incl tax! Stonking value 🙂
