Perth £1900, Maldives £1130 in Business Class in the Qatar sale!

Qatar Airways has launched another of its occasional 2-4-1 sales. These have annoying short booking windows (in this case, only until February 14th) but offer exceptional discounts when two people travel together.

Here are some sample prices on the Qatar website. If we focus just on the Business Class fares, there is Shanghai at £1,585 each and Kuala Lumpur at £1,600.

Whilst not on the list, The Maldives comes out at £1,130 in June. See the screenshot below from 8pm last night, note that the pricing is for two people:

Remember that Qatar flies from Manchester and, from May, Edinburgh, so these fares are of special interest if you live in the regions.

From Heathrow, Perth prices up at £2,330.

However, there is no need to pay such a rip-off price as £2,330 to fly to Australia and back in one of the worlds best business class cabins. (And earn Avios and British Airways tier points to boot!)

These sale fares are available from other European starting points too.

From Frankfurt, returns to Perth are just €2,319 each. That is just £1,917 each! Importantly, Qatar flies its new Boeing 787 to Frankfurt so you are guaranteed the latest seats.

Similar deals are available from other European capitals served by Qatar, but check for a 787 aircraft (see photo below) for the European leg. You will usually find this flying from Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, Zurich, Brussels and Munich.

The fare rules are modest:

Book by February 14th

Fly between February 20th and December 17th, excluding the peak Summer period of July 24th to September 13th.

For Perth only, you must travel between April 16th and June 30th.

No changes, cancellations or refunds.

Despite the fare rules, I found very little available over the Easter period unfortunately.

For info, if you are flying with (say) three people it will be more cost effective for you to do two bookings with Qatar, one booking for two and then one booking for one. When I checked yesterday the booking for one person is usually cheaper than the “2-4-1” total price and has more flexible conditions.
As a complete side note, Oman Air sometimes run 20% off sales, the last one finished about two weeks ago. Although the range of destinations are limited, their business class on their A330s is outstanding (better than most of Qatar’s imo), they are usually much cheaper ex Europe than UK, we managed to snag Milan to KL business fares for £1330 each with £200 cancel / change fees. Even outside sale times, they still seem to offer about £1600 Milan – KL business return.

I flew with Qatar J out to Japan anad back (through DOH) last Nov. Somewhat underwhelmed by the product actually although my previous Middle East carrier experience was Oman Air where the J product really is like F. Food on Qatar was fairly average with repeated meal options for connecting legs etc. Seat is pretty good (certainly better than BA J) although the TV screen seem to be set somewhat too low below eye level – minor niggle. The Premium terminal in DOH is excellent…the experience of checking in there is very much like a hotel with bellhops taking your bags etc. The bus transfers from any terminal in DOH to any aircraft (it seems) are very long though…sometimes up to 20 minutes on the bus…annoying when the driver forgets to turn on the aircon! All in however, at available prices the product is hard to beat.

  I wrote this post yesterday afternoon. May dates were showing at £1130. Late last night, I double checked and the price was £3100. I then found some dates in June at £2260 for 2 and redid the screenshot.
  
  This morning, the May dates are back at £2260 and the June pricing has moved. Not sure what is going on.
