Iberia has launched a very aggressive Avios redemption sale in business class.  The choices are a bit restrictive, but there are some genuinely excellent deals here if you have the flexibility to get away at relatively short notice.

There are only 3 days left to book, until February 14th.

You MUST book at iberia.com to get these deals.  This means that you must have an Iberia Plus account which is over 90 days old and which is ‘active’ (ie has earned 1 Avios) in order to transfer Avios across from BA or avios.com.

Prices are RETURN, per person, in BUSINESS:

Madrid to Bogota – 50,000 Avios + €185 tax

Madrid to Lima – 50,000 Avios + €191 tax

Madrid to Santiago de Chile – 60,000 Avios + €189 tax

Madrid to Rio – 50,000 Avios + €171 tax

Madrid to Sao Paulo – 50,000 Avios + €172 tax

Madrid to Luanda – 40,000 Avios + €150

Here are the booking rules:

Must book by February 14th

Must travel (both legs) by March 31st

Usual cancellation rules apply (ie €25 cancellation fee)

Availability is not so easy to find, so you would have to be flexible.  However, if you wanted to try Brazil or Chile (Angola is perhaps best left for another day) then this is a great opportunity.

The Iberia long-haul fleet is currently split between the new flat seat:

    Probably worth flagging up that IB are a bit of a nightmare if you need/want to amend your booking. I learned this lesson the hard way in their last half price redemption sale!

    Note: The old sloping seats do now go fully horizontal (i.e. they don’t slope any more). A row was removed shortly after IAG creation and the seats given enough room to do this.

    I have an Iberia account which has never earned any avios, any ideas how to earn some avios just to activate it? Thanks

      If you need them immediately, I would buy 2,000 (the cheapest amount possible on Iberia Plus). That should do it.

      If you don’t want them specifically for this offer, it would be more cost effective to transfer 1,000 Amex points over (4-5 days if you’ve never done it before to IB) or do a transfer from a hotel programme, or credit your next BA flight.

    Old version is indeed fully flat, although not as comfortable as CW. Bargain though for those who could make this work.

    Apologies in advance if this enquiry is rather basic but is there a secret to navigating the Iberia site. I have an Iberia plus account with only 100 avios in it, but plenty in my BAEC account. When I search for flights with Avios only economy flights show up to pay with avios. Do I have to transfer over a substantial wedge of avios prior to business seats being revealed or am I just mildly incompetent? I’d be grateful for your assistance as a week in Rio is looking pretty good from a flooded Blighty at the moment.

      It is an odd booking system. If there are no Business seats it often just show Economy (but not always!). It was very tough to find Rio availability when I was testing last night to find pricing, but I did in the end.

        One option is to use ba.com to find days with seats Madrid to Rio then plug those dates into iberia.com
