Oh dear, you’re not filling me with confidence. i took out the card at the start of the month, and foolishly allowed Amex to oen an SPG account automatically upon applying for the card. They didn’t. I had to call them, and ended up opening an SPG account myself, then called Amex back to give them the details. Points have appeared on my statement, but as yet yet nothing about my SPG account, and certainly no points in there either. With previous cards, my account log in had been full of offer details about bonus points, but not with this one, just an SPG status upgrade after spending many thousands in the first year. I’ve never had an SPG Amex before.

I reached the 2k spend on Monday night, so we’ll see what happens when my next statement arrives. I foresee trouble………..

    • Rob says:

If the points show on your Amex statement you’re fine, they will transfer across at some point.

You only have a problem if they disappear from Amex and have not appeared at SPG within a week.

      • Rob says:

That’s wrong for a start. They will leave your Amex account six days before but take a few days to hit SPG.

Delighted to post an update: my 20,000 SPGbonus points have appeared on my Amex statement toda;, all I have to do now is make sure they transfer to Starwood OK, then transfer to BA Avios !
        Hurrah !

    • Will says:

I did the same (let Amex create me an account). after speaking with people on here that approach worried me so opened my own account and well before the first points moved rang Amex and asked them to put my new SPG number which they said they had done.

now all my points go to an amex generated account which I have got a login to. it was painful but as I had no points on the account I created myself I am just leaving this alone until I get all the points out and move on. not a pretty experience compared to BA cards or MR cards.

  • Matthew says:

Same boat as everyone else it seems. Zero points in SPG account but Amex points balance keeps adjusting down monthly as if they went across. Took out in Nov and conditional spend reached in 20 days….bonus points still not posted. They have the correct SPG number too. Still not been sorted by Amex and apparently been ‘escalated’ like others. I just want those points….three avios redemptions I’ve had my eyes on for weeks have all gone 🙁

    • AndyGWP says:

I’m in the same boat. My card was fine when I did it a few months ago, my wife’s card tho is a nightmare to sort. Vanishing points like everyone else and allegedly escalated!

  • Nick says:

Now showing as 10,000 points. Looks like it was changed early. Thank god mine came through this week.

  • John Gallagher says:

How long do I need to leave between cancelling my previous SPG and applying for another to still be eligible for the sign-up bonus?

  • Keith Jenner says:

Good news. The points which left Amex yesterday have just arrived in the SPG account. Looks like Amex fixed the problem for my card.

We shall see in a few days whether my wives works.

  • Kiran says:

Success! As mentioned above my issue turned out to be non-matching personal details between SPG and AmEx. I altered the SPG details (which were set to my work address) to match my AmEx billing address and a couple of days later the points have appeared at SPG. Combine this with the fact that my 20k points posted on the qualifying spend (sounds like something of a miracle), I’ll be able to cancel this card before the 3 months are up.

  • Ian says:

With all due respect to everyone involved it would trouble me if anyone was referring this deal to anyone at this present time.

It’s obviously a bit of a dud deal at this moment in time.

  • Andrew S says:

AMEX managed to setup my Starwood account, however there must be some manual entry on the starwood side as the poscode and telephone number was input incorrectly.

I was able to get AMEX to tell me the starwood ac# and then “activate” the account on the SPG website.

Also was told the points will transfer on the 4th statement
