IHG extends its ‘10% off weekends’ deal to 28th February

As a trial, IHG Rewards Club has been running a ‘10% off weekend stays’ offer for the last couple of months. It slipped through the Head for Points net and I never got around to writing it up, so I’m lucky that it has been extended by a month.

The deal is valid at participating hotels (see list here) Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza and Indigo hotels in the UK and Europe. As long as your stay contains a Friday or Saturday night, you will receive a discount of 10%.

There is no special link. All you need to do is use the normal IHG booking site and ensure that you are logged in.

The discount is available on both ‘Advance Saver’ and ‘Best Flexible’ rates, so you can benefit whether or not you are willing to pre-pay your stay.

This offer is not just for Elite members – it is open to all IHG Rewards Club members. As it is free to join, there is no reason not to sign up.

PS. There are a few cases of rates booked under this promotion where IHG Rewards Club points are not awarded automatically. You are definitely due them, and they will be added if you retroclaim. For security, you may wish to take a screenshot of the page at the end of the booking process which shows how many points the stay will earn.

Spooky timing as always Raffles! I stumbled across this last night by accident looking for a cheap hotel night outside London to help hit my BigWin. £32 – 10% brings it down to £28.20 for a Saturday night at Birmingham M6 J7, which is nearby – result! I’ve emailed to double check the 10% rate counts as a “Live the City Life” qualifying stay but as you point out, it should do.

    Yes although if gold or plat you will get a free drunk voucher at m6 j7 so factor in a pint or coffee time 😉 also I personally feel its worth visiting the room but that’s just me

      I always visit the room and mess up the bed, often do a bit of work with the free wifi as well. Then steal the tea bags and toiletries and go home!

        I don’t even call reception next day anymore, I just leave the key in the room.
        
        Lots of people do this now anyway, especially in limited service hotels.

        Fantastic tips Stu & Raffles, will take these into account – this will be my first ever hotel hit and run. Funny how no where else would expect to find tips on staying at the Holiday Inn Birmingham M6 J7 hotel!!

  I stayed in M6 J7 yesterday to get in a Saturday night stay.
  
  As a (credit card) Platinum, I was upgraded to an Executive Room with water and a Mars Bar, plus a voucher for a free drink. And, I was told that all Platinum members get extra points as well, added automatically to their account (think the figure given was 500).
  
  £27 with the 10% discount. Not a cutting edge hotel, but excellent value nonetheless.

If you missed doing this when booking you can go into “My reservations” click on reservation details, the points for the stay are detailed in a box with your mebership No. and total points.

    Yes, they consider this to be the lowest available rate despite it being a membership rate which are excluded from comparisons.

My concern with this discount is as you say the times where it leads to a stay being erroneously marked as non-qualifying. I know know if it’s an issue with this rate in particular or if it’s due to the discount being large enough to tip it into the IHG non-qualifying box but it makes it quite a hassle if to then claim back – I must say especially if I have lots of bonus codes attached I don’t really want to have to call IHG CS!

.Slightly off topic but anyone with more than 50 nights last year should see their carryover posting about now. My 40 nights arrived this morning.
I have a few paid nights and 6 rewards nights (which now count) already booked so Platinum sorted for next year. Upgraded every time I stay at CP and get lounge access.
IHG Rewards Club is so annoying and at the same time so, well, rewarding. Even after the moaning and groaning about last year’s changes it is still ridiculously easy to get Platinum without actually staying (CC and keep your Platinum even tough you didn’t actually stay with us for example).
I’m looking forward to Raffles series on Hotel Reward schemes.

Will booking a Holiday Inn Express Best Flex rate which includes free breakfast count towards a Big Win “Stay 1 Best Flex Rate with Breakfast” as normally you have to add breakfast as an addition to Best Flex Rates?

I had booked an advance purchase rate at the Intercontinental (which gave me about 30 usd discount on a 300 USD night). As i need this stay as part of my Big Win, i am shocked to see that the stay posted now as non qualifying. The rate was given as the first option on the ihg website when looking for the standard best available rate.
I normally dont stay at ihg properties but as the Big Win was attractive (about 150K points for 5 nights) i changed my plans. But now i m quite shocked that i will be left empty handed despite the efforts (applying for credit card, looking for different brands along my trip)..Anybody got similar experience.? Any possibility to get the stay corrected as qualifying?
I also stayed at a crowne plaza booking a similar 7 day advance rate so i m worried also this stay will post as non qualifying…

  It is a mistake. Email the service centre and they will correct it. Your email confirmation should also have said ‘this booking will earn xxxxx points’.

I checked my reservations ( stayed this week at a Crowne Plaza Al Khobar, Intercontinental Riyadh and Holiday Inn Jeddah) but none of the email confirmations says this booking will earn xxx points… I had booked all advance purchase rate (7 or 14 days) so i was getting very worried that all my efforts to find different brands along my trip and applying for the credit card got wasted on choosing an only slightly better but non refundable rate.

      If its not on the confirmations, it would have come up on the confirmation screen when you booked. A dummy booking for the same rate should bring it up again.

        Indeed. The confirmation screen shows members earn 2000 points. Quite a relieve as the stay covered most of my big win targets (brand, saturday night, apply, book and pay with IHG credit card and one of the required 5 nights).

    It seems my task to get the Big Win wont be as easy as expected. In the original email received on the 19 Dec, i was told i should apply for the PC rewards visa card. I used the link in the promotion for th Big Win and it directed me to the free visa card. I applied for this card and have now received and used it. However when i checked my progress it now says that I should apply and use the PC black card. Any idea what I should do? It seems unfair to ask me to apply for a visa card and then change the rules (the requirement for the black card was notified on an email received on the 23 Jan showing my progress). I contacted customer service already but as i have already the Hilton visa, im not sure i can also get the black card.
