  Good job I didn’t bother to convert any points from Tesco then, we’d guessed it would be pretty restricted in destinations. Plus I’ve been checking availability for Avios redemptions on my route and it’s dire at the moment.

  BA and Avios must be fuming that this has all gotten out but well some to all who provided the information. The pre hype suggested that seething special was coming but in reality, and certainly for anything involving flying the offers are very poor. The restrictions on routes and cabins is frustrating. When you collect via premium travel the option to reward only via economy is no reward at all.
  Just glad have heldy points in club card and Amex rewards rather than converting to Avios.

    Avios and BA benefit SUBSTANTIALLY from the existence of this site … if I had a £1 for every person who had emailed me to say “I never bothered with Avios because it was too complicated / felt it wasn’t for me / didn’t think I’d ever earn enough for a decent flight but then I found your site” ….

  When comparing to cash bookings, you might also want to check different regional AVIS websites (e.g. avis.co.uk, avis.de, avis.fr – if you speak several languages). I noticed that the prices for the same rental location can vary significantly depending on the AVIS website you choose for your booking. There seem to be different offers (e.g. 3 for 2) as well.

  Hmm, was about to book a hotel and flight deal with BA to Dubrovnik with cash, now wondering whether to wait and pay for the hotel in Avios. Even with the 50% off, think I’d rather keep hold of the Avios for future flight redemptions though as I don’t have a huge stash. Will have to give it some thought.

  Well, I know BA listens in: the marketing bods have been unnecessarily restrictive on the £1 RFS offer – thereby severely limiting the value & appeal of this initiative. Avios is meant to be a loyalty scheme, after all – so where’s the reward for most loyal BA flyers, then?

  BA could easily have stuck in more destinations (I daresay to include most European destinations would have been absolutely fine); & a longer redemption period with either summer/ Xmas blackouts or severely restricted availability. Managing cost by availability for redemption; but at least preserving a modicum of excitement instead of spreading disillusionment & disappointment at what looks like hare-brained implementation of a decent idea.

    To be honest, I am surprised they ran this offer at all, because it is costing BA real money (they will be paying your APD etc). The ‘50% off long-hauls’ doesn’t actually cost BA anything and actually brings in a decent chunk of cash.

      £15 RFS would still have been pretty good AFAIAC. Mitigating cost but generating excitement & participation.

  The BAEC offer page does say 12 days of offers, so I am hopeful they have left to reveal in place of Eurostar.

    The first offer was Monday 6th, the second hotel offer expires on the 17th …. I make that 12 days!
