All six avios.com sale offers revealed early

My earlier article today said that the first avios.com sale offer would be revealed at lunchtime. However, you don’t need to wait, as I have them all for you here!

These are the headlines – I have no idea what the terms and conditions are, whether deals are limited to various routes etc.

50% off Avios required for long-haul flights – noon Mon 6 to noon Wed 8

25% off car hire – noon Wed 8 to noon Fri 10

50% off hotel bookings – noon Fri 10 to noon Mon 13

Reward Flight Saver tickets reduced to £1 – noon Mon 13 to noon Wed 15 (see image above!)

50% off hotel bookings (again, a mistake?) – noon Wed 15 to noon Fri 17

40% off Eurostar – noon Fri 17 to noon Mon 20th

The first offer – 50% off long-haul redemptions – goes live at noon. I don’t know yet if it will be just for economy flights or for all classes, and if all routes are included.

What this list does tell us is that ba.com cannot be offering exactly the same deals as avios.com, because they do not allow Eurostar bookings.

The first ba.com sale flights have been loaded in the system.

New York, for instance, is coming up at 20,000 Avios in World Traveller. Unfortunately, all other flight classes are still showing at full price. Given that taxes are £353, this is still a pretty poor deal unless you are booking for peak season or need the flexibility to cancel which a cash ticket wouldn’t give you.

The full destination list is Boston, Chicago, Dubai, Denver, Shanghai, New York, Toronto, Washington. World Traveller (economy) only for travel by 31 May. It says you must depart from London but its worth trying with a regional connection.

I can’t get on Avios at the moment (surprise surprise) – I was wondering whether anyone who has been on – I notice the banner at the start of this thread about the RFS reduced to £1 showed that it was “for selected destinations only” (would that be all zones 1-3?) – or does anyone have details of the exact t&c for this promo?

  A good question, would this also include the new Malta run with BA? Its a shame it won’t be a mix of an Avios reduction and a £1 RFS… but hey 🙂 I suspect there may be a slant on destinations just like the long-haul…

Avios.com not even loading for me now – guess the lunchtime crowd have just tried to jump on board. Why is it that these sites advertise offers (like east coast trains last week) and then they cannot handle the traffic? It just makes it annoying for users and pointless for them if no-one can actually get on and book! Have to say, the date limit, availability limit and generally poor value for long haul redemptions don’t exactly make this an amazing offer. no doubt they’ll find some way to make the RFS sale equally disappointing.

I wont be taking part in this offer, i will however make sure i have enough avios converted and in place to make use of the £1 RFS next week. Depending on terms and conditions this would allow me to book a few provisional flights and then cancel later on if i don’t need them and only lose the £1.

    BA.com the cancellation fee is less £25 (unless Gold), I’d assume the fee is similar with Avios.com, although doubt either can take more than the cash cost if less? I’d assume all that would be lost is the £1 upon cancelation.

    Cancellation fee was the £1.50 I paid for the flight.

      Thats good to know . I once cancelled a RFS booked with BA and was told by the agent that if I didn’t pay the full £25 fee I would lose the Avios. That was at the start of RFS.

  Not really – each offer seems to be valid for longer than a day – the first one is running till 8 Jan, for example.
