Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

All six avios.com sale offers revealed early

My earlier article today said that the first avios.com sale offer would be revealed at lunchtime.  However, you don’t need to wait, as I have them all for you here!

These are the headlines – I have no idea what the terms and conditions are, whether deals are limited to various routes etc.

sale2

50% off Avios required for long-haul flights – noon Mon 6 to noon Wed 8

25% off car hire – noon Wed 8 to noon Fri 10

50% off hotel bookings – noon Fri 10 to noon Mon 13

Reward Flight Saver tickets reduced to £1 – noon Mon 13 to noon Wed 15 (see image above!)

50% off hotel bookings (again, a mistake?) – noon Wed 15 to noon Fri 17

40% off Eurostar – noon Fri 17 to noon Mon 20th

The first offer – 50% off long-haul redemptions – goes live at noon.  I don’t know yet if it will be just for economy flights or for all classes, and if all routes are included.

What this list does tell us is that ba.com cannot be offering exactly the same deals as avios.com, because they do not allow Eurostar bookings.

Meanwhile, over at ba.com ….

The first ba.com sale flights have been loaded in the system.

New York, for instance, is coming up at 20,000 Avios in World Traveller.  Unfortunately, all other flight classes are still showing at full price.  Given that taxes are £353, this is still a pretty poor deal unless you are booking for peak season or need the flexibility to cancel which a cash ticket wouldn’t give you.

The full destination list is Boston, Chicago, Dubai, Denver, Shanghai, New York, Toronto, Washington. World Traveller (economy) only for travel by 31 May. It says you must depart from London but its worth trying with a regional connection.

Are the BA avios transferred to Avios .com instantly? In case i want to make a redemption
    Elena

    • thesaver79 says:

Yes, however there are reported problems of doing this from the BA website. I suggest you do it from the Avios one.

      • Elena says:

Ok with ill give it a go. I hope i manage the time.

      • James67 says:

My own personal experience has been the opposite. Twice I had problems with avios but never BA. However, no problem with avios in past 6 months.

  • Luke Atkinson says:

It appears that BA are offering rewards flights all 50% off. 50k miles for first return!

    • thesaver79 says:

If that’s the case I may want to transfer 14,000 MR that are sitting on my account to add them to my balance of 47,000 Avios and have them ready…. However, is it really going to be worthy? Opinions?

    • Nigel says:

If I cancel an existing BA award booking, do I get the miles back instantly?

      • Rob says:

Yes, once you log out and log in again

Make sure you are logged in when you do the cancellation or it can cause issues

    • Tim says:

How do you see the 50% off ones? Just tried LHR-SFO and it’s still saying 50,000.

    • Andrew (@andrewseftel) says:

I couldn’t get this, having tried a few random dates to east coast.

      • Pszczolka says:

It wasn’t working for me at all for Boston on the avios.com site even though it would say there was availability then when I clicked on the date it would say there wasn’t.

However, you can book on the ba.com website and the same promotion is applied and it is showing dates!

        • Pszczolka says:

I should note that price with avios is 40,000 avios + £715.30 in taxes versus £1115.30 not using avios (2 people to Boston in May), so not sure if it’s worth the miles…

  • squills says:

Aha. A few people elsewhere may need to eat the old hat. Some of those are pretty good.

The one that can affect me directly is the RFS @ £1 – this could save the squills family a fair bit, if I book 5 of us x 2 x return flights, I make that about…

    (RFS single = £17.50 – £1) x 2 x 10 = £330 saving 😉

    Is that about right?

    • squills says:

      Actually it’s a bit better, I notice from the image it’s £35 goes to £1 (not £2).

So my saving would be £340 😉

  • Mark says:

Where did you see this Luke?

  • Luke Atkinson says:

I stand corrected, I managed to get this up for a return trip to Miami in first but now can’t get it on any others

  • Tim says:

My BAEC combine my avios page says:-

“Unfortunately, it is not currently possible to combine your Avios online due to a technical error. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes you. Please contact your local Executive Club service centre to combine your Avios.”

How annoying… anyone else seeing the same?

    • thesaver79 says:

Yes, see my comment above. Do it from the Avios.com site.

      • Rich says:

I didn’t know you could do this. You’ve just saved me a phone call to BAEC, thank you!

    • Lady London says:

i got that then switched country. It worked immediately. It gives you a transaction reference in case of query.

  • Dominic Szanto says:

RFS only £1?!?! That’s incredible. As a Gold card holder with BA, am I right in thinking that I can cancel existing RFS bookings free of charge? If so then I can see if I can rebook a couple of flights for the end of this month and then cancel the existing one I have.

Will this reduction also apply to CE fares do you think? Or just ET?

    • nux says:

Free changes to reward bookings only applies to BAEC bookings, not avios.com bookings.

      • Rob says:

You cannot make free changes to BA reward bookings unless you are Gold. £25 fee per person for everyone else.

  • Elena says:

I have some sitting in my amex account… If i transfer today will they be in my BA account overnight or does it really take 3 days?
