  A rather difficult offer potentially… flights? well thats a BA redemption..hotels? No status potentially and I would genuinely struggle to spend £400 on car hire… I guess it should be easier but….

  Amex travel often undercut the airline and the big boys expedia/opodo etc for Air Malta business class fares.

      Indeed – thanks Charles. Timely comment too – I’ve actually got a post scheduled for 6 Jan on how Air Malta flights are usually cheaper if you don’t book with Air Malta. I used lastminute.com as my reference, but will have a look at Amex travel too now…

  I don’t know about cruises, but I suspect FHR are excluded as they’re fully refundable and the card is charged only at checkout? (apart from a deposit at time of booking)

      Probably not worth the bonus for cruises either. A tip is to price up cruises via the US Amex website @ https://travel.americanexpress.com/cruise as they can be substantially cheaper than Amex UK or booking with cruise lines directly!

  I was hoping there would be another 2,500 or 5,000 points bonus for making a booking at AMEX travel like there was in January last year but it doesn’t look like there will be now. I guess they saw the spike in bookings of youth hostels that month and changed the promotion for this year!

  Talking of bonus MR points I just got my 1,000 points from the IOS Venmo app promo.

  Had to contact AMEX to get them added, I wonder how much effort if any goes into the IT aspect of some of these promos, I get the feeling its cheaper for them just add the points manually for those who remember to chase up the missing points.

  Has anyone made any purchases yet? Do you know if the points went on straight away?
  Also, although it says ‘in one transaction’ has anyone put on multiple separate transactions of over £400 and know if that would work?

    The rules seemed pretty explicit about the £400 in a single transaction, I had two seperate bookings to do but gave up due to having no obvious way to combine them.
