IHG Rewards Club, the Holiday Inn / Crowne Plaza etc hotel group, has announced that its current promotion, ‘The Big Win’, will return in January.

You may have read some of my recent posts (eg this one) about ‘mattress run’ nights I did in cheap locations to hit the low target on my wifes account.  I spent just under £200 to earn over 100,000 IHG Rewards Club points, which should get me around £600 of free stays if used properly.

IHG Rewards Club

Registration for the January edition of ‘The Big Win’ should open on Monday.

It will run from January 1st to April 30th.

There is little more to say at the moment, until we see what sort of targets people are getting.  If IHG has set the bar a lot higher than it did for the Winter promotion, it won’t be much fun – but let’s see.

The registration page is now open and is here.

My own account needs 10 nights which is very unlikely.  My wife needs 3 nights / 3 brands / 3 Saturdays, so effectively 3 Saturday nights would do it.  Saturday is a terrible day for us to do mattress run nights, though, and her bonus is only 31,000 points anyway.

My Mum has the most useful selection.  5 nights required (any days) across 3 brands, must include 2 HIX properties (same OK or different?).  Bonus of 98,000 plus the usual points.  This looks worth a punt.  I think I will see what comes up naturally between now and Easter, and then try to pick up some cheap nights over the Easter break right at the last gasp.

5 nights in total, which must include 2 brands, 2 Saturdays, 1 Best Flexible Rate with Breakfast and 1 views.dashboard.offer.p.title will get me 69800 points in Round 2. This may or may not be worth it.

However, IHG has made me spend an extra 70 quid, in order to avoid a losing battle with their “customer services” to rectify an overbooking scenario which caused my final stay for Round 1 (worth 110k points) to post as non-qualifying. I will therefore no longer be spending that money on IHG properties next year.

  • pazza2000 says:

For me, on par with this qtr’s Big Win promo. More points although with greater effort.

    Stay 6 nights
    Stay 3 brands
    Stay 2 Cities (inc. London)
    Stay 2 Saturdays
Book 1 best flex with break
    Book 2 with IHG
    Survey

    Total 117k

  • Wesi says:

    My criteria is:

Stay a total of 18 nights and earn 13,600 points
Stay at 4 different IHG brand and earn 12,800 points
Book 3 stays through the Best Flexible Rate with Breakfast and earn 2,800 points.
views.dashboard.offer.dd.copy – 20,000 points – no idea what this one is just yet !?
Complete a simple survey and earn 100 points
Stay 3 Saturday nights and earn 5,600 points
Stay at 8 Holiday Inn Express® hotels and earn 9,600 points
Complete 7 of your offers and earn 65,000 points

Potentially 129,500 points and a planned trip to NYC more likely.

Considering that we got a 4 weeks trip to the US booked for next month it’ll be achievable for me – even though 13 of those nights will be in a non-group hotel due to circumstances beyond our control. But does anyone know yet what the “views.dashboard.offer.dd.copy ” could be?

  • Alba says:

    My offer is:

    8k for a total of 4 nights
    16k for 2 different brands
16k for 2 different cities, in the UK or Europe
    8k for 2 Saturday nights
8k for 2 Holiday Inn stays
    24k from the Big Win

I’ll be staying in hotels for 16 nights during January alone so this seems very achievable.

  • Isolde says:

My offer is broadly similar to Q4:

    5 nights – 8,400 pts
    2 brands – 9,600 pts
    2 Crowne Plaza – 7,200 pts
    2 Direct Bookings – 1,900 pts
    2 City stays – 9,600
    2 Weekends – 4,800
dashboard.offer.dd.copy – 20,000 pts (Any ideas what this is?)
Big win complete all 7 – 27,000 pts
    TOTAL – 88,500pts

  • Mark says:

    I’ve a typical set:
    8800 pts for 6 nights
    17600 for 3 brands
    4800 for 2 Saturdays
1500 for using an IHG credit card to book with (I do anyway!)
5600 for 3 (presumably different?) Holiday Inn hotels

All fairly easy for me. But the odd one is:
“Live the city life. Stay at 2 of the following locations below and earn 9,600 points”. The locations are:
    · Madrid: Hotel Indigo, Gran Via
    · Amsterdam:Crowne Plaza, Amsterdam South
    · Munich: Holiday Inn Express, Messe
    · Paris: InterContinental, Avenue Marceau
And most IHG group hotels in London.
My question is: Do you have to stay in two different CITIES, or would any 2 London hotels count??

And I get 10000 points for doing 5 out of the above six tasks.

    • Rob says:

I know someone who got it triggered last time with 2 in London. And someone who didn’t.

    • Brian says:

You might also find that all or most IHG hotels in the other cities (Paris, Madrid etc) also apply – not just the ones mentioned. That’s how it was with the autumn Big Win – you should be able to check a ful list. The terms and conditions did make it clear that it was two different locations last time, but if Raffles knows somebody who had that particular task completed with 2 in London (it didn’t work for me), then that’s just another example of IHG’s computing system messing up – again – so you might be lucky!

      • Rob says:

If it didn’t work for you either, I think people should assume that you DO need different cities. However, in my Mum’s case I will hit London properties early on anyway and see if that triggers it, and if not I may need to do a Reward Flight Saver to Manchester for the day!

    • Isolde says:

TheT&C imply that it is different cities. butcan always hope that we get through.

Number of bonus points or miles listed above will be rewarded after stays at required number of distinct cities from the following list of cities: London, Birmingham, Paris, Berlin, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich, Amsterdam, Rome, Madrid and Moscow between 1 September 2013 and 31 December 2013 (both dates inclusive)

  • Brian says:

You do have to be a bit careful about whether it’s actually worth trying to do the Big Win. For example, the best flexible rate with breakfast is always much more expensive than the best available rate – and of course you can get stays much cheaper using the special deals (2 for 1 or 35% off). So you need to work out whether the bonus points you get are worth the extra expense. I think IHG simply want people to think – ‘Aha, bonus points – must get those!’.

In the autumn Big Win, I booked Best Available rates every time to ensure that the stays posted, since the 35% off or 2for1 rates can be problematic, and I know that I spent a significant amount more. It was worth it in the end, but it did make the bonus points I earned worth less.

  • David L says:

Mine seems pretty generous, given I achieved the last Big Win:

    7 nights: 13.8k
    4 brands: 28.8k
    1 Flex w/Brek: 3k
    2 Locations: 14.4k
    2 Saturdays: 7.2k
    3 App bookings: 8.4k
    2 Crowne Plaza stays: 10.8k
    Win Big Bonus: 86.6k!!

Grand total of 172.4k and perfectly achievable (although a lot easier if two different London hotels counts as 2 locations as mentioned before).
