  Very interesting for those of us in the North. Does anyone know whether premium economy tickets bought using both the above code and the bmi discount can be upgraded to CW with avios (where reward flight availability allows of course)?

    Not 100 per cent about the BMI discount but the promo code should not be an issue. Try a dummy ‘book and upgrade’ at the time of booking to check.

  There’s also a condition that the flights must be BA-operated; no codeshares or alliance partners.

  Given that the first arrival into LHR from LBA is 10:40, this limits the connections available to you. For example, I’m due to go to Dallas next Spring. Using http://matrix.itasoftware.com/ and restricting the search to just BA-operated flights gives zero options that don’t include an overnight stopover in London on the outbound. (To restrict your search, enter O:BA+ in the advanced routing field.)

  On other routes (eg LBA-PHX), the same is true on the in-bound.

  I would love to switch my business to BA, but the connections via AMS on KLM and SkyTeam partners are much more flexible and reliable. Two out of two flights I’ve booked LBA-LHR have been cancelled due to “bad weather” (despite that fact that all other airlines were still landing at LBA).     Hi James. I think you were unlucky with the cancellations. Whilst they were going to T1 for the first few months there were a few cancellations for various reasons. Bear in mind the weather related cancellations may have been weather at LHR rather than LBA, which meant arrivals/departures to LHR were restricted causing cancellations. Since the switch to T5 reliability certainly seems no worse than other regional connections.

    Dallas is one of the worst examples for this discount as obvisouly this is AA’s hub so 3 of the 4 daily flights are AA’s, with the only BA one being too early for a connection.

      I’m pleased to hear that reliability has improved, but I’m certain there was no weather condition at either end that justified one of the two cancellations. No other carrier cancelled anything else from LHR or to LBA on the day BA were cancelling their flights. After being put up in the Heathrow Ibis (yuk!) overnight, the four other PAX and I travelled on the morning flight next day. The FA’s opinion was that it had been a “tactical cancellation”.

      I travel to the US three times a year. Since BA started up their service from LBA I’ve found that KLM’s connections are always better than BA’s because of their 06:00 departure. I’ll keep looking though, as I would do always enjoy flying BA.
