How to pre-order your BA duty free for at-seat delivery, and earn Avios

I would be fibbing if I said that I had never bought any duty free items on a flight, but I’m rarely in the mood – especially when trying to keep two children under control.  The pre-order service – known as ‘buy before you fly’ – from British Airways is therefore worth a look, and very few people know it exists.

You can go to this website before your flight, and select duty free items at your leisure from the High Life Shop.

Your items will be delivered to your seat, and you will earn 2 Avios per £1 on your spending.

This is only available on long-haul flights, with ‘selected’ routes excluded (I can’t find a list of the excluded routes).  You need to order at least three days before you fly.

This method also allows you to compare prices before you fly, so you will know if you are genuinely getting a bargain or not …..

Now, if I could pre-order and it was delivered to me on the (connecting) short-haul to GLA/EDI, then that would be a useful service.

As it is, not taking the chance with Heathrow security when transferring. Know too many people who have fallen foul of “the rules”, and in no mood to argue at 6am after an Asia inbound..

  • Robert says:

Tried the service twice and on both occasions failed to deliver, meaning I then had to chase a refund.

    Not great.

  • Russell Evans says:

I just used this service returning from JFK. I was pleasantly surprised, fully expecting something to go wrong but it was surprisingly smooth. Ordered 15th May, collected 24th July (was my next long-haul flight as I couldn’t collect on one of my intra-EU short hauls). Cabin crew member asked whether I’d like to purchase any duty free, at which point I told her I was expecting to be delivered a pre-order. She went off, found the items and brought them to my seat. No problems, and a good deal. She swiped my BAEC card and I received a small amount of points (which I assume are an error) in addition to those points I got upon the initial purchase. There are, as others have mentioned a few 10% off vouchers floating around which I believe are targeted at subscribers to the Highlife shop E-Mail

Any danger that you’d be prevented from an operational upgrade if you took advantage of this service in the same way you are if you order a special meal?

  • jdale says:

If you haven’t shopped on the High Life shop before, fill in your details when the form pops up, and you’ll get an e-mail with 10% off for your first order 🙂
