5 x £1 rooms each night at the new Qbic Hotel in Shoreditch

Qbic Hotels, operators of budget-but-funky-and-design-driven hotels, has opened in London (Shoreditch, naturally).

Whilst the hotel officially opened in late October, it is only kicking off its main launch promotion on November 12th.

From that date, the hotel will be making 5 rooms per night bookable for just £1. They will be available for stays from December 15th to March 15th. Fans of the nearby Hoxton Hotel will recognise the marketing tactic ….

Here is the process for booking (quoted from their website):

To be able to play, you first have to sign up here. Your email is your personal code.

The offer goes live at the end of November. What day, precisely? Aha, now that’s part of the fun! We’ll keep you posted via email, but you’d also be wise to follow us on Facebook and/or Twitter. [Other press reports suggest it is November 12th, although that is not the end of November.]

On the appointed day, a window will pop up on our website. You’ve got just 4 hours to book a £1 room anytime between December 15th and March 15th.

Remember, we’re offering 5 rooms a day, so it’s first come first serve! If your ideal date is taken, don’t give up. Try another, and another. But the competition is going to be stiff.

Show up to the hotel on the right date with your confirmation number. Dropping £1 into one of our two partner charity boxes in the lobby releases the key.

Great offer … but I must be getting old. I grew up living “off Old Street” and my school was a few yards from this hotel. Whitechapel and Aldgate is now evidently a part of Shoreditch …..

  Shoreditch has become a brand rather than a small area in East London. Not necessary a bad thing, the only association I can make with Whitechapel is Jack The Ripper.

Hoxton use to be just one street and Shoreditch use to be the area between City Road and Hoxton Street. It ended at wwhat was Old Street Police Station. The other side of Shoreditch Street was called Bethnal Green. Everywhere is now Shoreditch.

Whitechapel use to be the home of late night Bagels from two bakers open 24 hours and with wood fired ovens. Now there’s just the one in Brick Lane ….

  I lived in Wapping for 12 years before I had kids. I agree, Old Street roundabout now appears to be Shoreditch, which it never was in my day! Whitechapel seems to be disappearing as an area name.

Thanks for this one Raffles. I’m going to try hook this up with dinner at the Shangri-La (at the Shard) armed with $200 of food and drinks vouchers. They’re only about 1.5 miles apart.

Any update on this as yet? I think I signed up – but haven’t had any emails at all – the “sign up” box was somewhat confusing.
