Earning Clubcard points (ie Avios) at Dobbies coming to an end?

  Other news: there is a piece in the news about American Express and their anti-trust troubles in the US. Costco departure and regulation of their fees might lead to less beneficial rewards.

  Interesting. My local Tesco has recently started stocking lots of Dobbies gift cards which I don’t recall seeing before. I thought it was strange as no Dobbies remotely close to us!

  Since I started reading this site all garden centre purchases have been made using Garden Centre Gift Cards bought from Tesco with at least triple points, Fuel Save, double Amex etc.
  We found the Dobbies garden centres at Cirencester to be pretty unexciting.

  So no loss really!

  For some reason I had an idea that Dobbies was associated with Kingfisher (who own B & Q) in some way. Who knows who will buy them? Was also puzzled when Dobbies cards popping up in my local Tesco since last quarter of last year.

  Off topic but avios clubcard related. The £50/£25 paid Visa card route into National savings accounts appears to have hit the buffers. Raffles, are you aware. ? Plenty of talk about this on the paid to shop site.

    Also High Street Vouchers no longer accept them, but they still accepted the 3V cards that I found today.

    All I’ve seen is what I’ve seen on there. Bit odd since they are meant to be more flexible than 3V (since the £3.95 fee means it doesn’t matter if you empty them into your bank).

      Hi Rob, I tried depositing £50 (using a £53.95 visa card) into my NS&I Internet Saver account this evening and I got the message “Card number invalid”. So the rumours are correct. Fortunately Thames Water are still accepting them!

      The blocking seems to be at the NS&I end, tried using one to pay my council tax and it was treated as a credit card, I wonder if NS&I (well Worldpay as it’s a Worldpay iframe on the NS&I page) are treating these as credit cards now also.

    I queried on PTS why people buy these cards. I have only bought a few when i had money off coupons and trying to hit card targets. There was a comment about some employeee benefit schemes giving dicounts to buy tesco gift cards which people were then using to buy these cards. However, it appears tesco have clamped down on this. They can still be used for tax and vat biils and i guess council tax
