Receive £5 from Amex for writing a review on TripAdvisor

This seems like easy free money, to be honest.

American Express is offering a £5 statement credit when you connect your Amex card to your TripAdvisor account and write one review on the site.

The promotion runs until 31st December. However, it is limited to 25,000 people so I wouldn’t leave it until the last minute. Remember that you can review restaurants and attractions, not just hotels.

The rules are straightforward:

Your Amex card must stay connected to TripAdvisor until the £5 credit has posted

The credit will appear within 90 days of the end of the offer period (so it could take until 31st March!)

Registering is easy. Simply go to this link here and connect one of your Amex cards to your Tripadvisor account. If you don’t have a Tripadvisor account, it is easy enough to open one and link it up.

It seems that only Amex-issued Amex cards qualify for this promotion – ie BA, Nectar, SPG, Gold, Green, Centurion, Platinum, Harrods, Costco. Lloyds and MBNA Amex cards do not qualify. Think of it as another reason to get yourself a card if you haven’t got around to it yet!

I received the offer as an insert in my PRG snailmail statement yesterday but with a different link: amex.co/tripadvisoruk.

I was slightly concerned – why would AmEx be inviting me to link via a .co website? .co is Colombia!

Anyway, the link didn’t work and I got a 403 FORBIDDEN response. I’ll try Raffles’s link.

  No. I read this too, but it is very clear that you get the £5 for writing the review and not for using Amex at the place where you write the review. Although Amex would, of course, benefit if people believed otherwise!

    Think you’re right Tom – they’ve just copied the T&Cs from the Foursquare offer. I suppose that would apply to the offers which Flyoff has found on the site, which are more of a load to card statement credit format.

      Looks like it’s all been put together without much proofing: “It’s complimentary for eligible American Express Cardmembers (prepaid cards, gift cards and corporate cards are not eligible for the program). It’s complimentary, you will not be charged for connecting your Card.” Not sure it’s necessary to tell us it’s complimentary twice in the same paragraph and define what complimentary means!

        I also got an email confirming my review. It says I will be paid in 2-5 days, which makes a mockery of the March 2014 implied in the leaflet!

    Did reviews on my Gold, BA, SPG and Nectar cards and got emails confirming I’ll get £5 credit, just tried my American Airlines and Lloyds cards, I noticed when I logged in with the MBNA card account it knew I’d been to the Hen & Chicken recently (I went there a few times as it was on the small shop promotion!) which makes me think I’ll get the £5 credit, as you say certainly worth a go.

  Perhaps they are happy for you to link your non-Amex Amex but you just won’t be eligible for the credits. That said, the offers on the site are nothing new, just the D&D London offer which is currently running and that is open to all cards regardless of issuer. So like Raffles said, worth a try but I don’t think I’ll be going to the bother to create an additional TA account for my MBNA card.
