One of the little-known secrets about avios.com (as opposed to British Airways Executive Club) is that it allows you to redeem your Avios points for Air Malta. I wrote about this here.
However, getting to Malta will soon be even easier. British Airways has announced the launch of flights to Malta from Gatwick, starting at the end of March.
The service will run seven days per week. From Gatwick:
Mon / Tue / Wed – leaving 09.35, arriving 13.45
Thu / Sun – leaving 16.45, arriving 20.55
Friday – leaving 16.00, arriving 20.10
Saturday – leaving 08.00, arriving 12.10
On the return:
Mon / Tue / Wed – leaving 14.30, arriving 16.45
Thu / Sun – leaving 21.40, arriving 23.55
Friday – leaving 20.45, arriving 23.00
Saturday – leaving 12.50, arriving 15.05
Tickets are already for sale at ba.com.
An Avios redemption will cost you 20,000 Avios points + £35 tax return in Economy and 40,000 Avios + £50 in Club Europe / Business. However, it is worth noting that cash fares are looking very reasonable at the moment so you should do a comparison before deciding to use your Avios.
