‘Secret’ 20% Heathrow Rewards transfer bonus to Avios appears to be on

This is a tricky article to write, because it has the potential to go wrong and I cannot test it myself.

However, two people I know have made transfers from Heathrow Rewards, the airport shopping loyalty scheme, to British Airways during the past 10 days.

In both cases, they received a 20% bonus on their Avios points!

Heathrow Rewards

There was no mention of another transfer bonus in the most recent Heathrow Rewards newsletter or on their website.   However, as BA is currently running transfer bonuses on a lot of hotel programmes and on American Express Membership Rewards transfers, it is not a total surprise.

Unfortunately, my Heathrow Rewards balance is 19 points so I can’t test this.  There is also the risk that, even if there is a bonus, it may have stopped by the time you try it.

I am therefore NOT advocating that you jump in and do a huge transfer to Heathrow Rewards.  However, if you were thinking about doing one, now is as good a time as any.  You will have no recourse to Heathrow Rewards if you don’t get a bonus, though!

Didn’t the rate use to be 250 for 300 (i.e. 20% bonus) earlier on this year? Maybe a glitch.

  • Richard says:

I made a transfer end of July and got 20% extra it was only 500 points for 600 BA so not a big deal

  • Andrew says:

Likewise, I did a transfer recently and got the old conversion rate rather than the lower advertised rate – I think either LHR or BA just haven’t updated their systems to reflect the new lower rate.

  • Maja says:

Were the transfers to avios or to BA Executive Club?

  • Thomas says:

Great chance to win a million clubcard points with amex.

    • Rob says:

NOT transferable to Avios, must be used in store. See small print!

      • Gloop says:

        Nooooooooooooo!

Guess I could use the points to buy gift cards and then spend the rest of my life eating in Nandos!

  • david flacks says:

I can confirm this was still valid on 26th sept.

Transferred 750 HR points to BA and was credited 900 Avios this morning.

    • Trevor says:

On the other hand, I can confirm it wasn’t valid on the 27th Sept… I transferred 250 HR points to BAEC and this morning received 250 Avios. Hardly going to cry about 50 points, but a shame…

      • david flacks says:

        Doh!

Maybe the HR people read HFP and fixed the glitch.

        • Rob says:

They do read Head For Points, I’ve had press releases from them in the past

        • Rebecca says:

Actually I also transferred 750 points on the 26th September as soon as this post came out and only received 750 points the next day! 🙁 oh well…

          • Rob says:

Sorry about that – nothing lost, anyway. Odd that some people got them, although it does now seem to be dead.
