Avios reduces cost of Standard Premier tickets on Eurostar

  I booked three Eurostar tickets for September and paid 36,000 Avios plus £150 for three adult Standard Premier returns. The man handling my booking told me that, interesting, the Standard Premier Avios are often cheaper or at least no more expensive than Standard. I simply wanted the cheapest option and for that particular day, Standard Premier worked out to be cheaper than Standard.

  Eurostar is usful if living in North London and you can get a direct train into St Pancras or Kings cross. Just wish Eurostar or DB would launch services to Amsterdam and Germany

    I hear that DB and ICE want to do trains all the way through… when they can break the eurostar monopoly on the eurotunnel. In the meantime, you can buy sometimes cheaper tickets through http://www.nshispeed.nl and DB! This means its cheaper to travel to / from germany or netherlands than just to brussels. Of course since skipping a sector doesn’t cancel your entire trip like flying, you are free to book these tickets to just go to brussels, and at a cheaper rate than using the eurostar site.

  Nope, you only get the points if you book via eurostar site and use your number at the time of booking.

  It’s my understanding that AMEX offer fixed-point prices for Eurostar – 15,000 and 30,000 MR for Economy and Standard Premier, respectively, regardless of actual cash cost of the ticket? Has anyone tried this?

    Also from Amex MR, if you have a Eurostar Frequent Traveller account you can transfer points over. 1500 MR gets you 100 Eurostar points, and it’s 900 eurostar points for a standard class return, so that’s slightly fewer MR points. You can also book one way tickets with Eurostar points for half the cost, as well as the south of France / Ski Train ones for 500 each way, which can work out as amazing value! Only downside is that you need to buy a very expensive ticket to be able to join the Eurostar Frequent Traveller program in the first place…
