In a very low key way, British Airways has been offering double (or even triple) Avios points when you credit hotel stays.

The current offers are:

Swissotel – earn double Avios, 1000 per stay, until 30th September (more details)

Langham – earn double Avios, 1000 per night, until 31st August (more details)

Hyatt – earn double Avios until 30th September (more details)

Kempinski – earn double Avios until 30th September (more details)

Radisson – earn double Avios until 15th September (more details)

Raffles Hotels – earn triple Avios until 31st August (more details)

Accor (Novotel, Sofitel, Mercure) – earn triple Avios with 2+ nights until 30th September (more details)

Park Plaza – earn double Avios until 31st August (more details)

Preferred Hotel Group – earn double Avios until 31st December (more details)

In general, you will be collecting Avios instead of collecting points with the hotel chain. Make sure that you aren’t giving up something more valuable by asking for Avios, even with double or triple miles.

As I see it, this deal is only for bookings made via the hotel-direct websites, so you may end up paying for those Avios via higher priced room rates.
e.g. I just checked the Radisson Blu Royal in Copenhagen which for 2 nights quoted £408 for a compact single room, on a room only basis.
I found an alternative rate of £328 including breakfast ….

    • Nick Burch says:

You’re in luck – Club Carlson do a best rate program – http://www.clubcarlson.com/lrg/ . Book on their website (with breakfast – details must match!), submit the claim, and they’ll beat the rate you found by 25% AND you get the points 🙂

      • Robin says:

        That’s interesting thanks, I’ll remember this next time I want 25% off the lowest rate! I’ll use the club carlson site. But with this offer;
http://www.radissonblu.com and http://www.clubcarlson.com looks like the same booking engine and identical price quotes.
But the Avios offer small print says, “Offer is only valid for bookings made on radissonblu.com, radissonbluedwardian.com, or radisson.com” 🙁
