Introducing Award Mapper, a clever new site for hotel reward bookings

As I have written numerous times before on Head for Points, just when you think that every possible ‘miles and points’ website idea has been tried, someone pops up with something different.

Award Mapper is still in beta at the moment, but is fully usable. What it does is very simple but very clever. For any location in the world, it will show you all of the potential hotels which take part in the six major hotel loyalty schemes:

Award Mapper

Club Carlson
Hilton HHonors
Hyatt Gold Passport
IHG Rewards Club
Marriott Rewards
Starwood Preferred Guest

… along with the points required.

It is not yet fully accurate, but is not far off. For example, if you search for Sheffield, it offers the Park Inn Rotherham as an option. (At 9,000 Club Carlson points – just 3,000 Amex Membership Rewards points if you do a transfer – this is the best value although certainly not luxurious option in the wider area.) However, if you do a separate search for Rotherham, the Park Inn Rotherham does not show up!

Off the top of my head, the Sheffield list is accurate. Adding Le Club Accorhotels would have been handy, though, as that would have pulled in the Novotel, Mercure and Ibis. Best Western is also represented in the area.

So, it is not quite there yet. However, Award Mapper certainly has the potential to be interesting and could save you a bit of time researching options.

Agree it’d be nice to have Accor as an option too, but I like the simplicity of the site and the way it displays everything on a Google Map from the start.

Might be worth adding a link to the site in the article to save folk having to Google it? (although I see this article is #3 on Google when you do!). Couldn’t see any contact details on it at first glance either, was hoping to suggest to them re Accor.

  Now fixed. I noticed that last night before it went live, but I was in a hotel and couldnt easily make the change. Now in the dump that is the BA lounge BA use in Dusseldorf!

    I thought the new DUS lounge was pretty good. There is more food than in the old Terraces, and some delicious German white wine. I’ve used it a few times now and have been pleasantly surprised. I like the jar of Haribo.

      Ha! The Haribo was the only thing I took! The food and drink selection was actually surprisingly decent, but the furniture and lighting looked a lot like some 1970s Holiday Inn!

    The BA Hugo Junkers lounge in Dusseldorf isn’t that bad in the scheme of things. My 2 hours in Thai’s Royal Orchid lounge (Concourse E area) in BKK yesterday was a lot worse.
    
    Here’s what BA website describes the DUS lounge
    “Warm wooden materials, combined with soft light, glass, stone elements and high quality leather furniture complement the contemporary architecture to create a relaxed atmosphere. This spacious, inviting and well-equipped lounge will guarantee a pleasant stay time and time again” Very much like Holiday Inn, I guess 🙂

  I’ve had requests for Choice hotels and Wyndam from US-based folks, and I have Accor/Best Western on my list for the European folks. They won’t be hard to add, but I’m going to run out of colors!
  
  As for the person pointing out that it’s static data, you’re absolutely correct. I go with the published categories, and with some chains, those are ranges. I’d love to have a date search, so you can get the true availability, but since the hotels don’t make that data available via any interface other than searching every combination of hotel and date (and repeating that every few hours), it’s unlikely to happen.

    Thanks for responding and great work! Agree it’d be lovely to have live data, but for now it’d be great just to have the static one for lots of chains. I can definitely see myself using it when travelling to a place I haven’t been before and want to explore my options across the different chains I have points with.

This looks very useful. Now all we need is an awards flight equivalent where you pop in your departure and destination and all the options show up across the three main alliances and EK, VS etc with availability and miles needed in each programme. OK this is substantially more complex than hotels but wouldn’t it be handy!

Ignore the 97k. That is the rate which shows when standard reward nights are sold out, or you want something above a basic room, and they then offer to cash in your points at their de facto conversion rate (forgotten what it is).

Same with Mercer Street. When standard reward nights are sold out at the 50k level, they will offer you a business room or a premium room for 75k. One day earlier or later, it may well be back to the 50k level.
