50% bonus on Priority Club points purchases for 10 days

This may be the last ever official Priority Club promotion, before the change of name to IHG Rewards Club at the end of the month!  The Holiday Inn / Crowne Plaza / InterContinental loyalty programme, has launched a 50% bonus on points purchases.  This is only valid until 23rd June.

This offer is not as good as it was when it popped up last year, because purchased points no longer count towards status.

However, especially as Priority Club is no longer an American Express Membership Rewards transfer partner, this is a way of topping up your account if you are a few points short. 

There may even be places where it is cheaper to buy points than pay cash – it is $391 for 50,000 points under this promotion, for example, and you would pay more than that at the InterContinental London / Paris / New York at peak times.  More prosaicly, $135 for 15,000 points may be cheaper than paying cash for a Holiday Inn in a mid-size city.

(PS.  It is worth remembering, though, that you can ALWAYS buy points at $7 per 1,000 – which is a bit cheaper than even this special offer – by using the ‘cash and points’ method.  This involves booking a reward night at a 15,000 point hotel for 5,000 points plus $70, and then cancelling it.  You do not get your $70 back, but 15,000 points are redeposited in your account.  Priority Club has never come down on people who abuse this, to date, but of course it remains a risk.)
