Marriott recently announced that Iberia Plus has become a partner in Marriott Rewards. I didn’t bother to write about it, as Marriott Rewards has been a British Airways partner for years so it didn’t bring anything new.

Now, however, something interesting has turned up.

From June 1st to September 30th, you will earn triple Avios when you stay at Marriott Group property and credit your stay to Iberia Plus.

Marriott Iberia

Full details can be found here.

Let’s look at the key details:

This is an Iberia Plus promotion, not a BA one, so you MUST have an Iberia Plus account and send the Avios from your stay into it. You can transfer the Avios to BA or avios.com at a later date via ‘Combine My Avios’ at ba.com.

You MUST register for the promotion via the link above in order to receive triple Avios.

You cannot earn Marriott Rewards points and Avios points – you need to select one or the other on each stay

As well as Marriott hotels, this promotion is also valid at Ritz-Carlton, JW Marriott, EDITION, Autograph Collection, Renaissance, AC Hotels, Courtyard by Marriott, SpringHill Suites, Fairfield Inn & Suites, Residence Inn, TownePlace Suites, Marriott Vacation Club and Gaylord Hotels.

The standard earnings rate at a full service hotel is usually 2 Avios per US$1. With this promotion, you will be receiving 6 Avios per US$1, so effectively 9 Avios per £1 spent. This is not a bad return, especially when compared to the relatively dull ‘bonus points’ promotions currently on offer from the various chains.

Earning rates for ‘limited service’ hotels are lower, check out the terms and conditions of the promotion.

  • The Lady says:

One point to note about earning avios (or any airline mileage) with Marriott, as opposed to earning Marriott Rewards points, is that avios earned DO NOT accrue to your lifetime Marriott Rewards Points status on the account.

it’s important to note that if you will stay regularly over your career and might be in with a shot of “lifetime” status, which startes at 250 nights and 1.2 million Marriott Rewards points:

Redeeming Marriott Rewards points at Ritz-Carltons, especially for five night stays, is great value.
