Decent Expedia discount on US flight and hotel packages

If you are planning a US trip this year, this may be worth a look.

Expedia, via this link, is offering £50 off £500 ‘flight and hotel’ packages and £100 off £1,000 packages.

The clever thing with these Expedia deals is that you can use them to get a discount on flights by booking a throw-away hotel for one night during your stay (Expedia allows you to book a hotel for just one night).

Admittedly, you will struggle to find a dodgy motel for one night for much under £50, so there is perhaps not a great saving there. However, if you were looking to spend £1,000 on flights to the US, you would save £70 if you could find a dodgy £30 motel for one night!

Note that, if you want to use this voucher on a ‘proper’ booking with a long hotel stay, that most big chains are excluded – see the terms and conditions.

For example …. I managed to find 2 economy flights to Boston for 20-27 June and 1 night in the Montecello Inn in Framlington on 20th June for £1,084. The £100 coupon took this down to £984.

For comparison, booking just the flights on their own via Expedia came in at £1,054. You therefore save £70 even though you won’t be staying in the hotel you have paid for!
