How I got 1,000 free Virgin Atlantic miles from Tesco Clubcard

Let me start by saying that this offer is no longer available.  However, I wanted to post this result as a data-point in case the offer comes along again in the future.

Between January and March, Tesco Clubcard was offering a 50% bonus on transfers of points to Virgin Flying Club, as I posted here.  Alongside that, Virgin was offering 1,000 Virgin miles if you agreed to auto-convert your future Tesco Clubcard points to Virgin Flying Club miles.

I have a few old Tesco Clubcard accounts which I no longer use, dating back to a time when in-store bonus promotions were more common and I used to spread purchases amongst different cards to keep under the radar.

I took one of these old Clubcard accounts – which has not earned a single point for 2-3 years – and set it up to convert future points (of which there will be none!) to Virgin miles.

Last week, 1000 Virgin Flying Club miles turned up in my account!  The transaction was dated 22 March although the miles did not show until 5/6 April.

So, if this offer turns up again (and this was the second time I have seen it), dig out an unused or dormant Clubcard and set it up to autoconvert.  You will get a few Virgin Atlantic miles out of it.

Is your additional clubcard registered in your name and at your address? Or some varient?

Unless you have multiple Virgin accounts you can only do this once… of course if you never want to convert virgin miles anyway, it’s safer with a dormant clubcard account… but you can just turn off the autoconvert after the miles post, which is what I did.

I received my 1000 VA miles 2 weeks ago. And that’s the second time I’ve done it.

      Same name, same address.

  • AndyGWP says:

So in theory, I could set up ‘another’ clubcard now, and pop a couple of points on it in anticipation? 🙂
