Promotional code for £20 off when you spend £100 on British Airways short-haul flights

Via a promotion with Lloyds TSB, British Airways is offering a £20 discount when you spend £100 on a Euro Traveller (economy) European flight using a special British Airways promotional code.

In theory, this discount is only for holders of the Lloyds TSB Avios credit cards. However, it is hugely unlikely that BA will cross-check.

The promotional code you need is LTSBMARZH (that is not a typo, it is MARZH and not MARCH). Enter it on the ba.com website on the payment page.

Here are the rules:

The discount is PER PERSON, which is generous and saves you doing multiple bookings for each person travelling

You must book before 12th April

You must travel between 1st April and 30th June

You must travel in Euro Traveller (economy)

Domestic flights are not included

Some booking classes may not be included (Y,B,H,K,M,L,S,V,N,Q,O are included)

Up to nine passengers per booking

Flights must be return, not one-ways

I was tempted by this for a quick weekend away to Barcelona. However, it’s hard to escape the fact that the cheapest I can do the trip on BA is £192, while EasyJet is £119. True, the latter is hand-luggage only but I can manage with that.

Even with this £20 off code it would still cost me an extra £50 minimum to fly BA and the only real reason is a meagre 1000 Avios each way. This issue is compounded by an inexplicable change to the BA.com site since last night, changing from a useful configure-as-you-like page with prices up front back to some hideous 1990’s throwback where you have to stab around at various flight times and the price is revealed on the next page. “£243 return? NO! Back and try a different time” WHY???

I’ve just noticed the web-site reboot myself and it is very annoying for a destination with 15 return flights a day like Madrid..!

The only thing is that I have also noticed that over the past week the site has been giving the wrong minimum flight cost on the screen where you select the day to fly. I’ve noticed prices “from £508” from LHR to IAD over the day but the list of options to select shows the minimum was actually £608. Perhaps they have a bug and so have reverted to the old screen…

Also this code only seems to work with the U.K. as the origination of the return flight (i.e. currency of GBP), which I suspect is O.K. for most people.

Good news! The site is back to the “new” version.

And the £20 voucher code does work, however not for BA CityFlyer flights from / to London City; only full-fat BA from LHR or LGW.

I agree with @Thunderbirds on the minimum pricing. I would also add my irritation that the Return pricing changes depending on which Outbound flight you choose. So even though we now get the full view of times / fares on one page again (yay!), you can’t just scroll up & down and select £79 out and £79 back. By selecting £79 out it refreshes the Return table and the price changes to maybe £115.

Amazingly, even having selected two flights, the Total isn’t displayed until the NEXT page. Why can’t they just show it at the bottom?

Here’s hoping the BA.com Web Development Team read HFP 🙂

It seems the offer is wide open. Checking the T+Cs, there’s no mention of any LTSB restriction: ‘This discount promotion is only open to Eligible Participants. An Eligible Participant is a resident of the United Kingdom, aged 18 years or over’ – provided they have the code, of course.

So what’s the lowest qualifying £100+ fare, I wonder.

  I can tell you that LGW – BCN has taxes & fees of £78 return; via LHR they are £95 so given that this promo excludes UK Domestic, I think you’ll be doing VERY well to come close. Potentially the new Hand Luggage Only from LGW, at crazy-early-o’clock.

    I think that the £100+ qualification is verging on weasel words as I don’t think there are many just over £100. The ex-LGW hand baggage only fares are running at about £35-39 each way for LON-JER and -AMS at the low end, so wouldn’t qualify – and are cheaper than ex-shareholder fares where only ‘normal’ (i.e. baggage inclusive) fares are offered.
    
    I’ve just priced up my regular ZRH fare for June. £266 for two comes down to £226. Not bad. Ex-LHR only as Cityflyer flights ex-LCY don’t qualify.
