Amex refreshes its UK small business cards

A couple of months ago, Amex was offering a very generous 40,000 Avios if you signed up for their Business Gold card. Sadly that offer has now ended, and there is currently no sign-up bonus at all.

However, Amex has recently relaunched its Business Platinum and Business Gold cards, so I thought it was worth running over the benefits.

Amex Business Gold

Business Platinum

Full details of Business Platinum can be found here.

The key benefit is the travel insurance. Unlike the Amex Platinum personal card, the travel insurance policy for the Business card was not changed last year. It covers anyone up to 80 years of age (the personal card is now 70) and there is NO obligation to pay for the trip using the card.

You can have up to 5 supplementary cards, and those cardholders are also covered by the travel insurance.

The annual fee is £450.

You earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent.

You receive a full Priority Pass for lounge access at participating airports. Your main supplementary cardholder will also receive a Priority Pass.

Business Gold

Full details of Business Gold can be found here.

Apart from earning Membership Rewards at 1 point per £1 spent, the benefits are negligible.

The annual fee is £125.

Fundamentally, there is nothing exciting here. However, the cards are worth bearing in mind if you are a sole trader or own a small business – but only when a new sign-up bonus comes along!

    Raffles,

I must be one of the last beneficiaries of the 40,000 bonus. They hit my account just this morning after applying a couple of weeks ago.
Thanks for your original post and tips 🙂

Interesting. Do you know how ‘strict’ UK Amex is about issuing business CCs? In the US, it was very easy to get one with even minimal earnings. I could legitimately apply since I do have a small business, but its earnings are pitiful. I already have the personal plat Amex, but given the massive erosion of benefits, I mostly keep it for the travel insurance (not living in UK, options are limited) — so the changes last year have really cost me.
