New ‘buy Avios’ promotion fails to excite

You may have received an email last week from British Airways Executive Club concerning the latest ‘buy Avios’ promotion.

A quick search of this site shows that the offer is, to say the least, underwhelming compared to previous deals.

The headline is ‘Imagine where 25% more Avios could take you”. However, the text soon confirms that you only get the 25% bonus if you buy your maximum 24,000 Avios points annual limit in one go.  This costs a whopping £399, which is still 1.33p per Avios point.

Purchase between 5,000 and 23,000 and you only get a 15% bonus. Buy less than 5,000 and you don’t even get that!

Given that last year saw a 30% bonus, this offer does not excite.

Of course, if you were planning to buy Avios anyway to top off a redemption then this is a bonus you wouldn’t have had otherwise. Everyone else can pass on this one, though.

The offer ends on March 28th.
