£10 discount on Amex Gift Cards – good for hitting your ‘minimum spend’

  Even better for hitting your minimum spend – 3V visa gift cards from Tesco and since – they earn 150 bonus tesco points when buying £50 worth, have 0 % fees, can be used with a tesco money off coupon, and also the four square £10 credit promotion – it would be silly not to. I’ve gone through about £400 worth in the last month – and used them to pay my council tax, O2 bill, Virgin Media bill, and towards this years tax bill. Only downside is they only come in £25 cards (and only seem to be available in the bigger Tescos). Note: these are not the normal Visa gift cards – these 3V cards need to be activated online, where you then get an online VISA number, which can only be used online.

    Interesting. For paying tax, are they treated as a debit card and so no 1.4 pc fee?

    Thanx for the tip. So to confirm :

    1 This is an online only credit card?
    2 it does earn the club card 150 bonus? Normally credit card gift cards are exempt.

  Yes – it is treated as a visa debit card online. – and it does earn the 150 bonus tesco points. It doesn’t get treated as a Tesco Gift card or a Visa Gift card – but rather like a 3rd party store card.

  Unfortunately I wasn’t able to pay a credit card bill with it (otherwise it may have been that elusive perpetual points making machine) – and supply isn’t great. I’ve already bought them all from the Covent Garden Tesco 🙂 Although from the 3V website they are available in other places (but then you’d lose out on the tesco points – but you could still get Amex points, for places you cant otherwise use your Amex).

  and yes, no 1.4% fee for paying your tax. So buying £50 in tesco cost my £35 (£10 back from four square, and £5 money off tesco voucher) – plus with the added benefit on the 150 Tesco bonus (+ AMEX MR/BA points).
  I’ve taken the precaution on not holding more than £100 worth at any time, in case they stop being accepted in the way I’m using them for any reason.
  You could say, it is a bit strange paying your tax bill £25 at a time!!

    I will email you their email later today if I can find it. It is only £10 at risk, though … not the end of the world if you don’t get it. And Amex is OK at crediting stuff retrospectively if it doesn’t credit automatically.
