Double Amex Membership Rewards points when you book Virgin Atlantic flights

I broke this post out from the long piece I did on American Express promotions yesterday as I didn’t want any regular Virgin travellers to miss it.

Between 20th November and 31st December, Amex is offering an extra Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on Virgin Atlantic flights via their website.

This means 2 points per £1 on the Platinum and Green card and 3 points per £1 on the Gold card, since that earns an additional travel bonus anyway.

The offer is open to the first 1,000 people to register and make a qualifying transaction.  You need to register the number of your American Express charge card here (link deleted as dead) before you book.

It is worth noting that the rules also say that BA Amex cardholders will receive double Avios!  This may be an error on Amex’s part, though.

The deal is not listed on the website showing Christmas offers for BA Amex cardholders, and it would be odd for BA to countenance a deal which made it worthwhile booking with a competitor!

That said, if you were going to book a Virgin ticket anyway you clearly have nothing to lose by registering your card.

Does this deal really make it ‘worthwhile’ booking with Virgin in the absence of any other reasons?
