Here is some great news for anyone thinking of getting the British Airways American Express cardsThere is a very attractive sign-up offer again.

See here for details of the two promotions.

The free card is now offering a sign-up bonus of 9,000 Avios, up from 1,000 Avios.  Apply here.  The key benefits of this card are:

  • 1 Avios per £1 spent
  • 2-4-1 voucher for Avios redemptions when you spend £20,000 each card year
  • Spend £1,000 in 3 months to trigger the bonus

The annual fee card (£150 fee) is now offering a sign-up bonus of 25,000 Avios, up from 6,000 Avios.   Apply here.  The key benefits of this card are:

  • 1.5 Avios per £1 spent
  • 2-4-1 voucher for Avios redemptions when you spend £10,000 each card year
  • Spend £3,000 in 3 months to trigger the bonus

The 2-4-1 voucher that comes with the BA Amex is the best single deal in the whole UK loyalty card market.  It can save you huge numbers of Avios – use it for two First Class tickets to California, for example, and the saving is 150,000 Avios.  If you are heading to Asia, the saving will be even more.  It is a fantastic deal.  (You still need to pay the taxes on the free ticket.)

If you have any questions about the BA Amex credit cards, please comment below.  I have had one since the day they were launched over 10 years ago, so I should be able to help.  If I can’t, someone else can I’m sure.

    Morning Raffles,

I have an Amex gold and a BA Amex standard card, am
i right in thinking i can’t apply for the BA premium plus card?

    Regards Darren

    • Eshaq Choudhury says:

      I think you can apply.

“Offers are only available to New Cardmembers, if you have had a British Airways American Express Card in the last 6 months you will not be eligible for the bonus Avios. 9,000 bonus Avios will be awarded onto your account once you have been approved and you have spent and charged a minimum of £1,000 on goods and services to the account within three months of account opening. Please note this offer is subject to change. Please note that it can take up to one month for bonus Avios to be awarded to your account.”

  • Zoe B says:

If you get a platinum Amex, do the minimum spend is it then okay to apply for one of these? I recall something about not already having an Amex issued card…

    • Andrew Seftel (@andrewseftel) says:

It seems that you can do Gold/Plat and then a BA card, but not the other way around.

      • Raffles says:

You can have a BA Amex and still get a Gold. The Gold is only blocked to CHARGE card holders, ie Plat or Green. CREDIT card holders, eg BA, SPG, Nectar, are OK to apply.

Plat is different, the block there is having ANY Amex-issued Amex, charge or credit card.

  • Stephen says:

how long is this promotion likely to last?

    • Raffles says:

It seems to change every 6 weeks or so. This is the 2nd best deal ever, it is normally 18,000 at best for the Premium Plus card.

  • Craig says:

If I have a PP card and have got my 241, can I refer my wife who is an additional card holder and work towards another voucher and get the bonus?

    • Raffles says:

Yes. If you’re really clever, you get our wife a card and then get yourself a supplementary card on that account, so you can spend as well but have it count towards her 241.

  • Miguel says:

Thanks for the heads up. It’s a great offer. It’s been 4 months since I closed my previous BA Amex prem card. Technically I’m not eligible as they say you have to wait 6 months before reapplying. Is this strictly enforced do you know?

    • Raffles says:

It is risky, because you won’t know until it is too late. You will get the card, spend the £3k, and only then find out that no bonus posts. I would wait until early next year.
