Grab a £20 Ramada hotel room for any date in the next year

The Independent newspaper is running a very nice little promotion in association with 35 Ramada hotels across Britain.

You can book a room for just £20 all-in, for a stay between 8 November 2012 and 7 November 2013! This is a pretty impressive time frame, since normally such promotions force you to book in a tiny window when demand is expected to be low. However, not all dates are available for booking at all participating hotels.

Here are the instructions from the Indy’s website:

We’ve teamed up with Ramada to offer you this exclusive saving. Choose from over 35 hotels across the UK at just £20 per room per night.

You can stay anytime between 8 November 2012 and 7 November 2013 – but you must book by 21 October.

You’ll need to print out a token to present upon arrival. Look out for more tokens printed each day in the Independent and i, or download multiple copies here. We need you to enter your details below before you can access the voucher, but the Independent won’t use your data for any reason unless you give us your explicit permission. Once you’ve printed out your vouchers, book your stay on Ramada’s booking site.

So …

Step 2 – go here to the Ramada website to book your room

You can book a maximum of 2 consecutive nights per stay, which requires 2 vouchers (which look like the one below). One person can book a maximum of 3 stays during the whole year under this promotion, so a maximum of 3 x 2 night blocks = 6 nights.

There is a dropdown list of the participating Ramada and Ramada Encore hotels when you click through to the booking link. I have actually stayed in the Ramada Birmingham City Centre about 3 years ago – it is in The Mailbox development – and it was very acceptable.

In London, you have the choice of the Ramada Encore London West (near North Acton tube), the Ramada Plaza at Gatwick or the Ramada Hotel and Suites London Docklands (near Prince Regent DLR, walkable to the Excel Centre) . Reader Paul, who I need to thank for the tip-off about this, has stayed in the latter and also recommends it. It is worth noting that the two central London properties both score 4/5 on TripAdvisor.

I doubt you will earn Wyndham Rewards points on these rates although you can always try! It is still a great deal, though.

It seems like you can print the voucher as many times as you like – how do they keep track on whether you have exceeded the maximum number that you’re allowed? I also can’t detect any reason that they require a valid e-mail address, so you could in effect just make them up and book as many nights as you like! Or am I missing something?

  No, I don’t think you’re missing anything! Obviously if you book more than 3 nights at the same property there is a decent chance they will stop you, but I doubt anyone at Ramada is collecting and cross-referencing vouchers at different hotels.

  Not at Encore properties, neither is internet it seems. However, internet IS free at the Ramada London Docklands – not sure if this applies to all Ramada (not Ramada Encore) properties.

Quite handy, working in central London and commuting from Hertfordshire I think I may book 1 night per week for most of next year in the Docklands hotel! The train costs me close to £20 to commute home anyway, it would be nice once per week to have a short journey to bed and have someone clean up after me. I’m very surprised that the voucher does not have some kind of code. One thing that has only just occured to me – perhaps Ramada will keep track on names and not honour any bookings after they see your name appear more than 3 times in connection with the promotion? Either way, thanks for the heads up, this will still be very handy for a few nights at Gatwick that I require next year for various holidays etc.

  Given that wireless is free, and that I pay £17 / day for a Regus day office in The City when I need one, this is an interesting alternative given free wi-fi in Docklands. At least I can have a kip in the afternoon if I fancy one!

    Done it, couldn’t resist – booked a couple of days for January. It will be a change from Regus anyway! Now BMI has gone, I have set my Wyndham Rewards account to earn 500 Miles & More miles per stay, not that I expect to get them.

  Do they require ID at check in? Can you use different credit cards which have slightly different names or something, e.g. some of mine have certain initials and some don’t, some foreign cards have surname first etc..

    No, UK hotels do not by law have to ask for photo ID, although of course they can if they want. You could book some nights in your name and some in, say, middle name and surname, or indeed using a different first name. However, I would not do more than 3 nights at the same hotel and I would ensure I used a different credit card and email for each block of bookings. I would also keep my Wyndham Rewards number out of it.

Nice offer but seems that rather than going for a short window to use the offer they’re going for a short window to book instead – entirely reasonable but doubt in the next week I’ll be able to be definite enough about my travels next year to make a confirmed booking!

sorry, one more questions, is the max 2 consecutive nights or 3? if travelling with my husband can we do in both names at same hotel?

    Actually, the T&C on Indy (and Ramada) state that:
    
    “…up to a maximum of two nights per booking…”
    
    and
    
    “No more than three bookings per person can be made using this offer.”
    
    By these rules, it indicates that one person can make a max of 3 bookings of 2 nights each. It seems to me you can make a booking of 6 nights per partner for a total of 12 nights before breaking the rules and having to possibly manipulate the system.
    
    It also states that the rate “…is not eligible for Wyndham Rewards points.”
    
    Finally, nowhere does it specify that tokens must be unique, so I cannot see why you wouldn’t just print out 6 of the same token (given above and not bother with the Indy form).
