Two days ago I wrote an introductory piece on points.com, an online exchange for unwanted points and miles. Please read that post before trying to action the contents of this post.
Here is a good opportunity for you to put points.com to the test, if you have signed up for it.
US Airways is offering 500 Dividend Miles if you download their toolbar for your internet browser and use it to make one online search. (You can the happily uninstall it!).
You will obviously need a US Airways Dividend Miles account first, which you can get here. You are asked for a zip code when registering for the shopping website – simply make up a five-digit number.
Within a few weeks, you will have your 500 US Airways miles. You can then log-in to points.com and link your US Airways account.
This is what you can get for 500 US Airways miles:
- 109 American Airlines miles
- 212 Priority Club points
- 106 Aeroplan miles
- 112 Alaska Airlines miles
- 212 Asia Miles
- 131 LifeMiles
- 98 Delta Skymiles
- 116 Frontier Early Returns miles
- 197 Hawaiian Miles
- 141 Icelandair points
- 109 United MileagePlus miles
- 98 Virgin America miles
For most UK readers, AA or Priority Club will be the most likely transfer choice. To make the transfer, you need to also link the account of the partner you want to transfer to, and then set up the trade via the points.com website.
Obviously none of these deals are amazing, but if you follow through this process you will understand how points.com works which may be of benefit in the future. And you’ll get a handful of free miles out of it.
