Four obscure Tesco bonus point earning opportunities

Following my recent post on 2,500 Clubcard points for getting Tesco Homephone, I have been trawling around the deep and murky corners of tesco.com on your behalf.
I found four other bonus Clubcard point promotions going on, all of which are ending soon. None of them are worth making a real effort towards, but if you need the relevant service anyway ….
Number 1 is Tesco Gold Exchange. If you post off at least 15g of unwanted gold jewellery to Tesco Gold Exchange before 15th August, you will receive 150 bonus Clubcard points (360 Avios points at the standard conversion rate) on top of the usual 1 point per £1 paid. Tesco need to receive the gold by 15th August, so you would need to apply quickly for your pack to get it to them on time. I can’t comment on whether the price paid is top of the market, but at least Tesco won’t rip you off.
Number 2 is Tesco Dental Insurance. Buy a policy before 14th August and you will receive 1,000 Clubcard points (2,400 Avios at standard rate) as long as you keep the policy for 6 months. Since the cheapest package is £9.95 per month, this is not a great deal if you do it just for the points. However, this package does give you 100% reimbursement of NHS dental costs so if you fit in a check-up and some dental work during the 6 months you may come out on top!
Number 3 is Tesco Life Insurance. Tesco is offering 3,000 Clubcard points for taking out a policy. This promotion has been around for a while and, in its current incarnation, is less attractive than it was. However, it is still worth consideration. I will do a longer write-up on this in a couple of days, before it expires on 15th August, as it may – just – be worth doing just for the points.
Number 4 is Tesco Mobile. Last Winter Tesco ran a fantastic promotion, offering a whopping 20,000 Clubcard points for taking out certain mobile contracts. (That was worth 48,000 Avios or 50,000 Virgin miles at the base rate, and an amazing 72,000 Avios or 75,000 Virgin miles if you’d converted during the current ‘50% bonus’ promotion!).
This promotion is now back, albeit offering a maximum of 12,000 Clubcard points. If you need a new phone, though, it is certainly worth a look. The Sony Xperia U, for example, is £27 per month for a 24-month contract, so £648 paid out.
In return, as well as a phone (which has resale value) and 24-months of 200 mins of calls and unlimited texts (no data included), you will be getting 28,800 Avios at the basis conversion rate. If another 50% bonus comes along, that would jump to 43,200 Avios. Not bad. Other phones have fewer Clubcard points but better minute / data options.
With all of these deals, you need to take a look at the broader picture. None of them are worth doing purely for the Avios, so you need to compare Tesco’s pricing to what is available elsewhere on the market. It may well work quite nicely, though.
