Special American Express promotion when booking Virgin Atlantic

Amex has launched a special promotion, limited to just 1,000 cardholders, planning to fly with Virgin Atlantic.

The first 1,000 holders of an Amex-issued Amex card to register and then book a Virgin flight will receive double Amex reward points when they book a Virgin Atlantic flight before 7th September.  That means double Membership Rewards points, double Avios, double cashback etc depending on which card you register.

(An ‘Amex-issued Amex is a UK-issued Platinum, Gold, Green, BA, Nectar, Platinum Cashback or Starwood Amex, but NOT MBNA or Lloyds issued Amex cards.)

In theory, this promotion is only valid on cash tickets.  However, since Amex probably awards the bonus by scanning your statement for transactions coded as Virgin Atlantic, you may well also get double points when paying taxes on Virgin Flying Club redemptions.

There is also a pathetic competition involved as well.  One of these 1,000 people will win 2 return tickets from London to New York.  In Economy.  And, here’s the best bit, taxes and charges are NOT included.  This means that it will actually cost the winner £700 or so to claim their ‘prize’.  Lucky them.

    Great tip.

Signed up with my BA Amex (although I have a feeling, despite the wording, that this may be eligible for membership reward cards only). Plan on booking a reward this month, here is hoping for double avios on the taxes/fee’s paid.
