I was alerted to this interesting offer for Tesco Homephone.
Tesco Clubcard is currently offering 2,500 bonus points – equivalent to 6,000 Avios or 6,250 Virgin Flying Club miles – if you sign up to their home phone service. This can be done separately from your broadband service, if that is provided by someone else.
There are two packages. The first offers free evening and weekend calls to UK landlines, with the only fixed cost being £13.75 for monthly line rental. The second offers free calls to UK landlines all day for £4.50 per month plus £13.75 line rental. Overseas calls are charged as per Tesco’s tariff.
In addition to the 2,500 point signing-up bonus, you will earn 3 Clubcard points for every £1 you spend on your bill.
Now, whether or not this package works for you will depend on your call pattern, especially whether or not you make a lot of overseas calls, since they are not included.
You can choose between either a 12-month contract or a 30-day rolling contract with a £40 set-up fee. Remember that your 2,500 bonus Clubcard points could be worth as much as 10,000 Avios points if converted during a Tesco to BA conversion bonus.
Worth a look, although it seems that Tesco will not give you an online quote for homephone if you currently have an integrated broadband and line rental package. Even if Tesco’s phone pricing is not the cheapest on the market, the points may still make it a far better deal.
