The Points Guy has discovered Avios Reward Saver flights and loves them. And I agree – see this post.
View from the Wing reports on a potential US lawsuit against BA due to the high level of taxes and surcharges on Avios redemptions …..
Whilst it is easy to shout ‘mad Americans!’, it is difficult to argue that something shoudn’t be done. At the most fundamental level, BA issues a new timetable and files new base fares with IATA twice a year …. so surely a fuel surcharge should only cover any sharp jump in oil prices over the last few months?
Ghetto IFE has details of the new seat layout (and indeed brand new style Club World seat) that BA will be putting on BMI’s A321’s, initially to Tel Aviv and Cairo.
And Miles from Blighty repeats the rumour that BA will lose security pre-clearance at Shannon for one of its London City to New York flights. (These flights stop at Shannon to refuel, since an A318 cannot take off from London City will full fuel tanks due to weight, which gives passengers the chance to clear security at Shannon as US immigration has an outpost there, for weird historical reasons.)
Losing this would take away one of the benefits of the LCY flights, since you currently enter the US as a domestic passenger and avoid what can be a huge wait at passport control.
Finally … I have just applied to Turkish Airlines to see if they will match my BA Gold card, which would give me another 2 years of Star Alliance Gold after my Miles & More Gold expires in Feb 2013. I will report back!
