(Targetted?) 40,000 Avios sign-up for BA Amex

Flyertalker 5mSvGlow pointed me towards this link for the BA Premium Plus Amex card.  It offers (until 1st August) 40,000 Avios for signing up as opposed to the usual – already excellent – 35,000 offered via ba.com.

By a coincidence, I also saw this offer last night when I logged into my father-in-law’s BAEC account to move his Diamond Club miles over.  It appeared as a banner advertisement on his Executive Club home page.

It is not clear if this ad is targetted or not.  I presume it must be targetted in some way, since the ad still shows for him this morning yet I have never seen it or my account or my wifes.  Wierdly, if I click through to the credit card page on ba.com on his account, I get the standard 35,000 Avios offer.

My gut feeling is that if you apply via the link above then you WILL get 40,000 Avios.  Which, given the £150 fee for the BA Premium Plus Amex, is a great deal.

On the subject of credit cards, over the weekend I updated the Card Offers page to reflect changes over the last month.  The changes were:

The United Airlines MileagePlus card has had its sign-up bonus removed!  Without the bribe of 15,000 miles, I can’t see any reason for applying for this card at the moment, especially as the earning rate at 1 mile per £1 is also weak for an Amex.

The Starwood Preferred Guest Amex sign-up bonus has dropped back to 10,000 SPG points from the promotional 20,000.  This 20,000 offer comes around a couple of times a year, so I would hold off from applying for a few months unless you have a specific reason.

I included the link to the ‘40,000 points and your fee refunded’ Priority Club Black Visa promotion, although if you were not targetted for this then you may not get anything more than the usual 20,000 points and no fee refund.

Apart from that, unless I have missed something, everything else is as it was in June.  The BA Premium Plus 35,000 Avios sign-up bonus (40,000 via the link in this post), the fee-free Amex Preferred Rewards Gold with 20,000 Membership Rewards points and the Hilton Visa with the free night certificate for spending £750 remain my top picks at the moment.

I will continue to publish one in-depth review each week of a loyalty card – next up will be the Marriott card.
