(Targetted?) 40,000 Priority Club points credit card sign-up

My wife has just been targetted (for the second time) for the new Priority Club Black credit card.  She didn’t apply the first time because we had just applied for an SPG Amex but this time I am tempted.

It is not clear if the offer is targetted.  The usual Priority Club Black package involves a £99 annual fee and 20,000 points as a sign-up bonus, plus a free night when you spend £10,000.  I haven’t yet reviewed this card but will do soon.

Her targetted offer is better in two respects.  The £99 fee is charged, but will be refunded within 30 days of August 20th.  The sign-up bonus is also doubled, to 40,000 points.

This means that there is effectively no annual fee and a sign-up bonus worth at least £150.  After all, 40,000 points is good for a free night at a Crowne Plaza and some InterContinentals (although most are now 50,000 points) or two nights at a Holiday Inn or Holiday Inn Express.  More details can be found on the Priority Club website.

They are also worth 8,000 Avios or other airline miles, although this is not the best use of them since you would be getting only £60 or so of value.  (See this post for a discussion on which hotel points convert best to airline miles.)  The 40,000 points also count for status, and are worth 2/3rd of what she needs to requalify for Platinum.

It is not clear if this bonus is open to anyone or not.  She is directed to this webpage (EDIT: now dead, deleted), albeit that this page has not been updated for the new promo and still says the fee will be repaid after June 6th.  

Would everyone who applies through this link get the 40,000 points and fee refund?  It is not clear, especially as people could apply through that link using a different address to the one on their PC account and so make it difficult to cross-reference who was targetted.

That said, it might be worth a punt, especially if you were thinking of applying for the Black card anyway.  Remember that the terms of the deal are that the £99 will be repaid within 30 days of August 20th, so you cannot start chasing it until mid September.
